Position Overview
The R&D Chemist at NPFCL Sharjah is responsible for organizing and executing the full research and development activities of the company’s wood coating product range — analyzing and improving existing product formulas, developing innovative new formulations, designing and troubleshooting processes at both labscale and production scale, conducting reverse engineering of competitor products, performing stability studies and shelf life determinations, maintaining the laboratory’s quality system and SOPs, testing raw material samples, coordinating laboratory equipment and calibration, presenting developed products to management, and delivering technical training to production, quality, and other relevant departments — all in support of NPFCL’s strategic product objectives and market growth goals.

- Organize and lead the overall research and development activities of NPFCL’s wood coating product range — analyzing existing product formulas in depth, identifying opportunities to improve performance, cost-effectiveness, and market competitiveness, and developing innovative new formulations that advance NPFCL’s product portfolio
- Develop high-quality, innovative, and high-performing wood coating products by integrating customer insights, competitive intelligence, expert technical knowledge, and creative chemistry — collaborating efficiently with cross-functional teams to move promising formulations from concept to validated, production-ready product specifications
- Perform analytical testing to identify new formulations, process improvements, and cost savings techniques — applying a range of chemical testing and characterization methods to understand formula composition, performance properties, and improvement opportunities in NPFCL’s wood coating product line
Competitive Benchmarking & Reverse Engineering
- Analyze competitor wood coating products through systematic reverse engineering — deconstructing competitor formulations to understand their composition, performance properties, and technical advantages, then comparing findings directly with NPFCL’s equivalent products to identify quality gaps and formulation improvement opportunities
- Provide management with structured, evidence-based insights on the competitive landscape — including analysis of competitor product qualities, raw material selection, and technical differentiation — to support strategic product development and market positioning decisions
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging coating technologies, new raw materials, and performance requirements in the wood coating market — translating competitive and market intelligence into practical product development priorities for NPFCL’s R&D pipeline
Labscale & Production Process Design and Troubleshooting
- Design, run, troubleshoot, and continuously improve wood coating manufacturing processes at both labscale and production scale — ensuring that formulations developed in the laboratory can be reliably and consistently scaled to full production without compromising product quality or performance
- Identify and resolve process challenges and quality issues encountered during labscale development and production scale-up — applying systematic root cause analysis and chemistry expertise to diagnose problems and implement effective, sustainable process improvements
- Coordinate with production and quality teams during scale-up and trial batches — providing hands-on technical guidance and troubleshooting support to ensure smooth transition from R&D laboratory to commercial manufacturing
Stability Studies, Shelf Life Testing & Raw Material Evaluation
- Ensure that proper stability studies and shelf life determination are conducted regularly for all wood coating products — with particular rigor for newly developed products under research observation periods — preparing structured, timely stability reports for the R&D Manager
- Conduct batch testing for samples from new raw materials and pre-shipment manufacturer samples — evaluating raw material quality against defined specifications and reporting findings clearly to support procurement and production decisions
- Maintain a disciplined stability testing program that generates reliable, scientifically sound shelf life data — ensuring NPFCL can confidently communicate accurate shelf life information on product labels and technical data sheets
SOP Maintenance, Laboratory QMS & Administration
- Update, revise, and maintain the laboratory’s quality system and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) — ensuring all laboratory test methods, safety procedures, and documentation practices are current, compliant, and consistently followed by all R&D laboratory personnel
- Coordinate for laboratory equipment ordering, calibration, and technical troubleshooting — ensuring all laboratory instruments are properly maintained, calibrated to current standards, and available to support the R&D testing program without disruption
- Maintain an organized, well-stocked, and safe laboratory environment — monitoring supplies, enforcing safety standards during all testing activities, and assisting with laboratory administrative duties as assigned by the R&D Manager
Management Presentations & Cross-Departmental Training
- Present developed wood coating products to management — providing comprehensive technical briefings covering product specifications, intended applications, performance qualities, expected market demand, and commercial launch readiness — enabling management to make informed, confident go-to-market decisions
- Provide technical training to production, quality, and other relevant departments regarding newly developed and improved wood coating products — ensuring all operational teams have the knowledge and skills needed to manufacture and QC the new products correctly from day one of commercial production
