Position Overview

As a Frontend Developer at Spatial Front Inc in Arlington, VA, you will be an essential contributor to the design and development of responsive, accessible, and high-performance user interfaces for Federal Government web applications. Your work will be guided by a deep commitment to user-centered design principles, strict adherence to Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards, and best-in-class frontend development practices using modern JavaScript frameworks. You will collaborate closely with UX designers, backend engineers, and government stakeholders to translate wireframes and design prototypes into beautiful, functional, and performant web interfaces — ensuring that government users receive intuitive, efficient, and inclusive digital experiences across all devices and browsers.

Key Responsibilities

Frontend Design & Development

  • Design and develop responsive, accessible web interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks — primarily React, Angular, or Vue.js — for Federal Government web application programs.
  • Collaborate directly with UX designers to translate wireframes, prototypes, and design specifications into fully functional, pixel-accurate, and user-friendly frontend interfaces that meet government standards.
  • Optimise frontend application performance across all dimensions — including page load times, rendering speed, resource utilisation, and responsiveness — ensuring a fast and smooth user experience on all devices.

Accessibility & Standards Compliance

  • Ensure all frontend code meets Section 508 accessibility standards and WCAG 2.1 guidelines — a non-negotiable requirement for all Federal Government web applications developed at SFI.
  • Apply knowledge of the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) to ensure government interfaces follow established design patterns, component libraries, and federal digital standards consistently.
  • Conduct cross-browser and cross-device testing to guarantee consistent, accessible, and high-quality user experiences across all major browsers, operating systems, and screen sizes.

Integration, Code Quality & Collaboration

  • Integrate frontend applications with backend APIs and data services — working closely with backend engineers to build seamless, performant data connections and ensure a robust full-stack experience.
  • Participate in code reviews and enforce frontend development best practices — including component reusability, code maintainability, clean architecture, and documentation standards across the development team.
  • Contribute to testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, or Selenium to ensure frontend code quality, test coverage, and reliable automated testing pipelines for government application deliverables.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field — required for this position.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional frontend development experience — with a demonstrable portfolio of responsive, accessible, and performant web interfaces built using modern JavaScript frameworks.

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in HTML/CSS/JavaScript — including modern ES6+ syntax, CSS preprocessors, responsive design techniques, and cross-browser compatibility best practices.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern frontend framework — React, Angular, or Vue.js — with the ability to build component-based architectures, manage state, and integrate with RESTful APIs effectively.
  • Strong understanding of user experience principles, accessibility standards (Section 508/WCAG 2.1), and responsive design as applied in federal government web applications.

Eligibility & Clearance

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen — this is an absolute requirement and cannot be waived for any candidate. No exceptions.
  • Must possess an active Secret security clearance or demonstrate the ability to obtain one — required to support Federal Government programs at SFI. No visa sponsorship or Corp-to-Corp arrangements.

Desired / Nice-to-Have Skills

Understanding of PeopleSoft and related Oracle technology for enterprise government HR and financial systems.

AWS Certified Developer or equivalent cloud/frontend certification demonstrating cloud-native development capability.

Prior experience developing frontend apps for DoD or federal agency programs — understanding of government contracting environments.

Familiarity with design systems — especially USWDS (U.S. Web Design System) for building standards-compliant government interfaces.

Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, or Selenium for automated frontend quality assurance.

 Who Should Apply?

  • Federal Government Frontend Developers: US Citizens with Secret clearance and 3+ years experience building accessible web applications for DoD, civilian agencies, or federal contractors in the DC Metro/Arlington area.
