What You’ll Do

As Field Testing Specialist at Corteva Eau Claire Research Center, your responsibilities include:

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate standard agricultural equipment including tractors, planters, sprayers, and combines
  • Operate specialized research equipment designed for experimental field trials
  • Perform basic maintenance ensuring all equipment operates safely and efficiently
  • Plan and coordinate with vendors to ensure equipment is field ready for critical operations

Field Experiment Execution

  • Conduct field experiments according to specific research protocols with precision and accuracy
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion as appropriate during experimental procedures
  • Follow detailed experimental designs ensuring data integrity and research quality
  • Document all field activities and observations systematically

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain effective and timely communication with coworkers, managers, and research stakeholders
  • Coordinate activities across research team ensuring smooth operations
  • Report experimental progress and any issues requiring attention
  • Participate in team meetings and planning sessions

Seasonal Team Management

  • Manage and direct work of seasonal employees as necessary during peak periods
  • Train seasonal staff on proper procedures and safety protocols
  • Assign tasks and oversee completion to quality standards
  • Provide leadership supporting productive team environment

Critical Field Operations

  • Assist with planting operations during critical spring planting season
  • Support spraying applications following precise research protocols
  • Participate in pollinating activities for breeding research
  • Conduct combine harvest and hand harvest operations during fall harvest season
  • Work weekends and overtime during critical periods (planting, spraying, pollinating, harvest)

Safety & Compliance

  • Contribute to maintaining safe and respectful work environment for all team members
  • Maintain proper policies through compliance recordkeeping and documentation
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed during equipment operation and field work
  • Support excellent safety and risk management practices

What Skills You Need

The ideal candidate for this field testing specialist position must possess:

Educational & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED with 2-4 years of experience in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, or scientific-related field
  • OR Associate’s degree in agriculture or scientific field with 0-4 years’ experience
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or scientific field with 0-4 years’ experience

Communication Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective team collaboration
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling positive working relationships
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people across research teams

Technical Competencies

  • Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Capacity to learn new technologies and software systems used in research
  • Ability to handle large volumes of data accurately and efficiently

Safety Orientation

  • Commitment to excellent safety and risk management practices in all activities
  • Understanding of agricultural safety protocols and procedures

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical lifting and outdoor work in varying weather conditions

  • Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds regularly
  • Stamina for extended days during critical field operations

Flexibility & Availability

  • Flexibility to work extended days during critical times of growing season
  • Availability to work weekends during planting, spraying, pollinating, and harvest periods
  • Willingness for some overnight stays as required by research operations

Licensing & Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to drive medium-duty trucks and trailers (10,000-25,999 GVWR)
  • Ability to obtain appropriate pesticide applicator license/certification
