Position Overview
This QC Microbiologist role involves conducting comprehensive food microbiology testing and analysis to ensure product quality and safety in sugar manufacturing operations. You will perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products, maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration and functionality, prepare culture media and reagents following standard procedures, document test results and maintain accurate laboratory records, support QHSE compliance and quality management systems, and collaborate with quality control and production teams.

Key Responsibilities
Microbiological Testing & Analysis
- Conduct food microbiology testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products
- Perform microbiological analysis including total plate count, yeast and mold, coliform testing
- Execute pathogen testing and environmental monitoring procedures
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all microbiological tests
Laboratory Procedures & Quality Control
- Follow standard laboratory procedures and testing protocols consistently
- Prepare culture media, reagents, and solutions according to specifications
- Maintain laboratory equipment ensuring proper calibration and functionality
- Implement quality control measures for laboratory testing accuracy
Documentation & Reporting
- Document test results accurately in laboratory information management systems
- Prepare detailed laboratory reports and analysis summaries
- Maintain comprehensive records of all microbiological testing activities
- Ensure compliance with documentation and record-keeping requirements
QHSE Compliance & Standards
- Support quality, health, safety, and environmental standards compliance
- Follow food safety regulations and quality management system requirements
- Participate in internal and external laboratory audits
- Implement corrective actions for non-conformances and quality issues
Laboratory Management & Maintenance
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization following GLP standards
- Manage laboratory inventory including media, reagents, and consumables
- Ensure proper storage and handling of samples and materials
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and calibration schedules
Team Collaboration & Support
- Collaborate with quality control and production teams on quality matters
- Communicate test results and findings to relevant stakeholders
- Provide technical support for microbiological issues and investigations

Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Diploma in Food Microbiology (REQUIRED)
- OR equivalent qualification in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field
- Strong foundation in microbiological principles and testing methodologies
- Understanding of food safety and quality control concepts
Experience Requirements
- 2-4 years professional experience in food microbiology testing (REQUIRED)
- Experience in food manufacturing or food industry laboratory preferred
- Hands-on experience with laboratory procedures and microbiological techniques
- Background in quality control laboratory operations advantageous
