Position Overview

This Electro-Optics System Engineer role in Abu Dhabi covers the full systems engineering lifecycle for electro-optic and imaging systems — from requirements definition and system architecture design through specification creation, cross-functional integration, design review participation, system verification, and validation documentation. You will implement MBSE and V-model engineering processes, create SSS/HRS/SRS documentation, lead or contribute to SRR/SDR/PDR/CDR/TRR reviews, maintain CONOPS and SEMP, conduct electro-optic market research, manage technical risk and configuration control, and mentor junior engineers — all within a multidisciplinary team spanning optics, electronics, software, and mechanical engineering.

Why This Role Matters: As Systems Engineer for Electro-Optic & Imaging Systems in Abu Dhabi, you lead the development of some of the most technically advanced sensor systems in the optronic and defence engineering space — from first architecture through validated system delivery, applying MBSE, V-model, and INCOSE systems engineering methodology with IBM DOORS requirements management to a discipline that demands both rigorous technical process and deep optical and sensor technology knowledge, work in a multidisciplinary environment spanning optics, electronics, software, and mechanical engineering — developing a breadth of technical engagement that is uniquely characteristic of senior systems engineering roles, participate in the full suite of design reviews from SRR through CDR and TRR — building the formal design review participation credentials that are highly valued in defence systems procurement and programme environments, conduct market analysis of the global electro-optics landscape and emerging sensor technologies — contributing a strategic technology awareness dimension that distinguishes a senior systems engineer from a pure technical specialist, and advance your career in Abu Dhabi’s growing advanced technology and defence engineering sector where MBSE-qualified EO systems engineers with INCOSE credentials are consistently in demand and command competitive senior salaries.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Engineering Processes & Architecture Design

  • Implement systems engineering processes for electro-optic and imaging systems including requirements definition, system design, implementation, and verification
  • Develop system architectures by translating user needs into functional designs for sensor systems, optical assemblies, and image processing components
  • Manage technical processes including risk management, configuration control, and design decision-making throughout the system lifecycle
  • Apply MBSE or V-model system lifecycle methodologies to EO system development programmes

Specifications — SSS, HRS & SRS

  • Create detailed System and Subsystem Specifications (SSS), Hardware Requirements Specifications (HRS), and Software Requirements Specifications (SRS)
  • Manage requirements traceability using IBM DOORS or equivalent requirements management tools
  • Ensure specifications are complete, consistent, and traceable from user needs through to subsystem and component level
  • Compile and maintain comprehensive project documentation including CONOPS, SEMP, and Test & Evaluation Plans

Design Reviews — SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR & TRR

  • Participate in Design Reviews including System Requirements Review (SRR), System Design Review (SDR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), and Test Readiness Review (TRR)
  • Ensure adherence to established engineering processes and checklists at each design review milestone
  • Support system verification and validation through documentation of test results and compliance reports for optical performance and sensor accuracy
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional teams across optics, electronics, software, and mechanical engineering — addressing performance trade-offs and integration challenges

Market Research, Mentoring & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Conduct market research to assess the electro-optics landscape, analyze emerging technologies, and identify competitive sensor products
  • Prepare and present technical papers, proposals, and reports to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and task delegation to junior engineers as appropriate
  • Engage with programme leadership and customers to communicate system engineering status, risks, and key decisions

Qualifications & Requirements
