Position Overview
This Agronomist role in Plainfield, Wisconsin involves supporting every stage of the crop lifecycle, from strategic planning through implementing and overseeing all agronomic activities across assigned fields. You will develop crop plans, set yield and quality targets, manage soil health programs, oversee planting preparation, lead scouting programs, direct pest and nutrient management, monitor irrigation, forecast crop progress, and support harvest and post-harvest quality to maximize crop yield, quality and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Crop Planning & Field Strategy
- Develop and execute crop plans, set yield and quality targets in partnership with Agronomy and Farm leadership
- Identify risks across assigned fields and build mitigation strategies
- Oversee soil health programs including cover crops, amendments, fumigation planning and long-term field productivity
Planting, Scouting & Field Monitoring
- Ensure field readiness, seed quality and accurate planting execution
- Monitor operations to drive uniform emergence and address issues quickly
- Lead regional scouting programs, establish standards, and train field teams for consistent, high-quality observations
Pest, Nutrient & Irrigation Management
- Direct integrated pest management and fertility programs, including data interpretation and treatment decisions
- Ensure regulatory compliance across all pest and nutrient management activities
- Monitor crop water needs, ensure irrigation accuracy, and coordinate schedules to optimize crop health
Forecasting, Harvest & Storage Oversight
- Track crop development, analyze field data, and provide yield forecasts, harvest timing and risk assessments
- Support harvest readiness, monitor quality and field conditions, and escalate risks impacting yield
- Evaluate crop quality entering storage, monitor conditions, and communicate risks to maintain product integrity
Continuous Improvement & Team Collaboration
- Conduct post-season analysis and support agronomy strategy development
- Ensure accurate data capture and contribute to trials and innovation efforts
- Partner cross-functionally with Farm Managers, Agronomy and Operations teams for a unified, high-performing team
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, Plant Science or a closely related field is preferred
Experience Requirements
- Experience in crop production, soil management and pest/nutrient management
- Hands-on background in field scouting, irrigation monitoring or harvest oversight is a plus
Essential Skills
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting field and crop performance data
- Ability to lead and train scouting teams to maintain consistent field standards
- Effective cross-functional collaboration with Farm Managers, Agronomy and Operations
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent field priorities
