Position Overview — Institutional Research Specialist
This Institutional Research Specialist at a Dubai university’s Strategy Division implements institutional data collection, governance, and management frameworks in line with approved standards — analysing and validating complex data and preparing professional analytics reports to support data-driven decision-making. The role develops predictive data models and forecasting tools aligned with strategic and operational planning objectives, prepares and delivers comprehensive business intelligence outputs, conducts institutional research studies, market trend analysis, and benchmarking activities, develops interactive dashboards for performance tracking and data visualisation, designs and administers surveys and assessments, assists in analysing research findings and providing actionable recommendations for strategic planning and continuous improvement, assists in developing standardised data reporting protocols, and performs ad-hoc activities as required by the direct supervisor.
Why This Role Matters: As Institutional Research Specialist at a UAE university’s Strategy Division, you build the analytical infrastructure that gives institutional leadership the data clarity it needs to make strategic decisions with confidence — about enrolment trends, programme performance, peer benchmarking, and operational efficiency — in an environment where the quality of institutional research directly affects accreditation outcomes, strategic planning credibility, and the university’s competitive position in the UAE and regional higher education market. When your predictive enrolment model correctly forecasts programme demand two academic years ahead of the planning cycle, your benchmarking study correctly positions the university against regional and international peer institutions in a way that identifies genuine performance gaps rather than flattering the leadership’s existing assumptions, or your interactive dashboard correctly surfaces a performance trend for the senior management team that the previous static report cycle was consistently missing — you are not producing analytical deliverables. You are equipping the institution to plan better, perform better, and improve continuously with evidence that is accurate, timely, and genuinely actionable.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance, Collection Frameworks & Analytics Reporting
- Implement institutional data collection, governance, and management frameworks in line with approved standards — establishing the data infrastructure and governance protocols that ensure institutional data is accurate, consistent, complete, and appropriately managed across all academic and administrative functions
- Analyse and validate complex institutional data and prepare professional analytics reports — supporting data-driven decision-making across the University in line with set policies and procedures, with the analytical rigour required to present findings that senior management can rely upon for strategic and operational decisions
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive business intelligence outputs in an accurate and timely manner — producing the BI reports, data summaries, and performance analyses that keep institutional leadership, planning teams, and accreditation stakeholders informed with current, reliable institutional intelligence
- Assist in the development of standardised data reporting protocols under senior specialist supervision — contributing to the institutional data reporting standards that improve consistency, comparability, and quality of data across all university reporting cycles
Predictive Modelling, Dashboards & Strategic Forecasting
- Develop predictive data models and forecasting tools in line with strategic and operational planning objectives — applying statistical and machine learning modelling techniques to institutional datasets to produce forward-looking analytical outputs that support enrolment planning, resource allocation, and strategic programme development
- Develop interactive dashboards in line with performance tracking and data visualisation requirements — building dynamic, user-friendly data visualisation tools that allow institutional managers, academic leaders, and senior administrators to monitor KPIs, track performance trends, and investigate data patterns without requiring direct analytical support for every query
- Assist in analysing research findings and provide actionable recommendations to support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives — translating analytical outputs into clear, evidence-based strategic recommendations that the Senior Specialist and institutional leadership can act upon within planning and improvement cycles
Institutional Research Studies, Benchmarking & Survey Analysis
- Conduct institutional research studies, market trend analysis, and benchmarking activities in accordance with leading practices and research methodologies — producing the comparative institutional intelligence that positions the university against relevant regional and international peer institutions across academic, financial, and operational performance dimensions
- Design, administer, and analyse surveys and assessments in an accurate and timely manner — developing the survey instruments, administering them to appropriate institutional populations, and analysing results to produce findings that are statistically sound, interpretively insightful, and directly useful for institutional decision-making
- Perform ad-hoc activities related to job duties as required by the direct supervisor — demonstrating the flexibility and institutional awareness to respond effectively to emerging research priorities, urgent data requests, and special analytical projects that fall outside the standard research planning cycle
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Master’s Degree: With a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and at least 1 year in a supervisory position — in institutional research, data analytics, business intelligence, or a closely related field
- OR Bachelor’s Degree: With a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience and at least 2 years in a supervisory position — demonstrating equivalent professional development through extended experience
- Certification in a relevant field is preferred — data analytics, business intelligence, research methodology, or equivalent professional certification that demonstrates specialist analytical competency
- Strong analytical skills — able to collect, validate, analyse, and interpret complex institutional datasets, producing reliable and actionable research outputs that meet high standards of accuracy and professional quality
- Experience in predictive modelling and forecasting — applying statistical or quantitative modelling techniques to institutional data for strategic planning and performance forecasting purposes
- Dashboard and data visualisation capability — building interactive, user-friendly BI dashboards that communicate institutional data clearly to diverse non-technical stakeholder audiences
- Survey design and analysis experience — designing, administering, and analysing institutional surveys and assessments using appropriate research methodologies and statistical techniques
- Knowledge of benchmarking methodologies and institutional research practices — conducting comparative studies against peer institutions in the UAE and internationally
