Position Overview
The intent of the Grain Originator position is to establish long-term relationships with suppliers to pursue grain origination that maximizes elevator volume and supports trading activities. This role targets producers, develops effective pricing strategies and promotions, represents the company at the farm level, and plays a key role in planning logistics to meet the needs of producers and the facility.

Key Responsibilities
Producer Contact & Grain Buying
- Research and identify producers in the elevator’s anticipated draw territory
- Establish effective daily communication with the customer base and expand the producer network
- Buy grain from local farm producers and promote all commodity programs and products
Hedging & Risk Management
- Report grain purchases to the hedging staff and enter all contracts promptly
- Secure counterparty confirmations and signatures
- Help cultivate company perspective on price and quality, and monitor standing pricing orders
Strategic Development
- Annually review producer profiles and target suppliers
- Provide feedback on crop production intentions, yield expectations, and transportation needs
- Collaborate with the Manager on inbound truck scheduling and logistics
Team Participation & Representation
- Actively participate in weekly merchandising meetings and regular operations meetings
- Participate in annual volume/margin forecasting and space management discussions
- Represent the company professionally, exhibiting fair, ethical, and legal commercial standards
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
Experience Requirements
- 2+ years of trading experience

- Strong communication skills and relationship management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
