Key Responsibilities

- Define, design, and implement feature development with a strong focus on technical direction, code quality, usability, and application performance
- Leverage data and performance metrics to make informed, strategic decisions across all stages of the software development lifecycle
- Oversee the code review process to ensure full compliance with best practices, Premera’s engineering standards, and architectural guidelines
- Sign off on technical and architectural documentation for all changes to production systems, ensuring SDLC artifacts are properly created and maintained
- Responsible for vendor oversight and code sign-off — ensuring effective vendor relationships and consistently high-quality outcomes from third-party development work
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Delivery
- Partner with business and IT leaders to identify, understand, and solve multi-faceted enterprise problems and improvement opportunities
- Collaborate with development teams, business partners, solution architects, and customers to deliver technical excellence and resolve complex engineering challenges
- Serve as the primary engineering and strategic implementation partner — ensuring clear, effective, and timely communication across all project stakeholders
- Participate actively in live site operations with a strong emphasis on timely response, service delivery, and customer satisfaction outcomes
- Monitor key performance indicators consistently and take proactive measures to ensure successful project outcomes across all active engineering initiatives
Data-Driven Decision Making & Engineering Excellence
- Analyze project data and metrics systematically to identify trends, patterns, and areas of concern — making data-driven recommendations to improve software delivery
- Oversee engineering excellence and drive continuous automation across cross-functional project teams and in-team testing initiatives
- Train and enforce governance processes to ensure full compliance with company standards, best practices, and applicable regulatory requirements

Mentorship, Knowledge Sharing & Community Leadership

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications — Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field is required
- Eight (8) or more years of hands-on software development experience with strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages used in enterprise software development environments
- Demonstrated expertise in building multiple high-performance, stable, and scalable solutions deployed in enterprise settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with cloud solutions — AWS, Azure, or GCP — in an enterprise software development context
- Experience in the healthcare industry or within a highly regulated technology environment is strongly preferred
- Technical knowledge and experience with Premera-specific tools such as Facets or other required enterprise platforms
- Previous experience working within an Agile development environment and iterative project delivery frameworks
- Exposure to API and service-based technologies including RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
- Hands-on experience using and creating automated testing tools and CI/CD pipeline integration
