Position Overview
As Commissioning Engineer, you lead grid connection and commissioning for utility-scale BESS and PV assets and work with grid operators, energy suppliers, EPC contractors and vendors. You review MV, LV and SCADA designs and documentation, oversee commissioning and quality assurance, validate technical documents and as-built records, and supervise on-site construction and commissioning. You make sure projects are delivered successfully and meet technical standards, from first grid connection to energisation and handover.
Why This Role Matters: Germany’s energy transition depends on storage and solar at scale, and commissioning engineers are in short supply. This role gives experienced electrical engineers ownership of the final, critical project phase, with a published salary range and direct impact on grid infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Grid Connection
- Lead grid connection and commissioning for utility-scale BESS and PV assets
- Coordinate with grid operators, energy suppliers, EPC contractors and vendors
Design & Documentation
- Review MV, LV and SCADA system designs and documentation
- Validate technical documentation and as-built records
Site & Quality
- Oversee commissioning processes and quality assurance
- Supervise on-site construction and commissioning
- Ensure delivery to technical standards
Qualifications
Education
- Degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering, or an equivalent technician or Meister qualification
Experience & Skills
- Previous experience in commissioning, electrical engineering or plant construction
- Strong knowledge of medium voltage, low voltage, protection systems or grid connection processes
- Experience with BESS, solar PV, substations or wider energy infrastructure
- Experience coordinating grid operators, suppliers and EPCs
Language & Travel
- German at C1 or higher and good English
- Willingness to travel throughout Germany (50–100%)
