Role Overview – Senior Quality Assurance Officer
The Senior Quality Assurance Officer ensures that all products, processes, and services meet established quality and compliance standards. This includes overseeing harvesting operations, post-harvest handling, cold chain integrity, supplier quality assessments, and sustainable farming compliance.
You will monitor daily Ag Tech activities to ensure alignment with:
- Food safety standards
- ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
- Sustainable agriculture practices
- Environmental compliance regulations
- Ethical trading requirements
This role blends technical quality oversight with operational monitoring and stakeholder coordination.
Key Responsibilities
1. Harvesting & Post-Harvest Quality Monitoring
- Daily monitoring of harvesting, packing, and storage of berries and fresh crops
- Implement quality control procedures to minimize post-harvest damage
- Preserve product freshness and market quality
2. Cold Chain Management & Storage Compliance
- Track cold chain conditions from harvest to packhouse
- Monitor storage temperatures and handling practices
- Reduce spoilage risk and maintain product integrity
3. Pest Control & Contamination Prevention
- Supervise implementation of pest prevention procedures
- Minimize cross-contamination risks in fresh produce facilities
- Ensure hygiene compliance across premises and equipment
4. Inspection, Testing & Non-Conformance Reporting
- Conduct inspections and quality tests
- Identify defects and non-conformities
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA)
- Develop corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA)
5. Supplier Quality & Audit Support
- Assist in supplier performance assessments
- Evaluate adherence to quality standards
- Support internal and external audits (Food Safety, Environmental, Ethical Trading)
6. Training & Continuous Improvement
- Provide crop handling knowledge to employees
- Deliver training on compliance and food safety standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for process improvement
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate quality documentation
- Ensure correct document versions are used
- Report compliance updates to Agri-Compliance Manager
Qualifications & Experience
To succeed as a Senior Quality Assurance Officer, you should have:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science or related discipline
Experience
- Minimum 3+ years in Sustainable Agriculture
- At least 2+ years in Quality Assurance
- Experience with ISO 9001 or other Quality Management Systems
- Strong knowledge of berry handling and fresh produce operations
Required Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of sustainable farming methods (water management, IPM, waste reduction)
- Understanding of food safety management systems
