SGS, world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is seeking Trainee Agricultural Inspectors for Avonmouth, Bristol to conduct inspections of agricultural products and facilities, perform sampling, grading and testing per industry standards, prepare accurate reports, and ensure compliance and quality assurance across agricultural supply chain with full training provided.

Role Overview

SGS is looking for Agricultural Inspectors to join our dynamic team. This role is open to both fully qualified inspectors and motivated individuals seeking to start and train in this field. You’ll play key role in maintaining quality standards across agricultural supply chain, ensuring safety, compliance, and integrity in everything we do as part of SGS’s Natural Resources business line serving mining, energy, and resource sectors.

Key Accountabilities

Inspection & Testing Activities

  • Conduct inspections of agricultural products and facilities
  • Perform sampling, grading, and testing in line with industry standards
  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety regulations
  • Inspect agricultural shipments at vessels and ports

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare accurate reports and documentation
  • Maintain detailed inspection records
  • Complete compliance documentation

Client & Stakeholder Relations

  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders ensuring compliance and quality assurance
  • Communicate inspection findings clearly and professionally
  • Build positive relationships with agricultural industry partners

Training & Development

  • Support training and development activities if joining in trainee capacity
  • Participate in ongoing professional development
  • Learn from experienced inspectors and industry experts

Qualifications

We welcome applications from:

  • Trainees who are eager to learn with a strong interest in agriculture and food standards (full training provided)
  • Agriculture, Food Science, or related these Degree
  • Experienced agricultural inspectors with relevant qualifications and industry knowledge

Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Good attention to detail
  • Communication and reporting skills
  • Willingness to work both independently and as part of team
  • Flexibility to travel as needed
  • Full driving license (Essential)
  • Interest in agriculture and food safety standards

Working Schedule

  • 48 hours annualised contract
  • Including days, evenings and weekends
  • 12 hour shifts working around ship/vessel timings
  • Flexible scheduling based on port operations
