Position Overview

Syngenta’s Product Biology Team is seeking an R&D Specialist in Vero Beach, Florida who will own the fungal inoculum production process from start to finish. You’ll manage diverse testing capabilities—spanning lab to field—with dedicated focus on soil-borne plant pathogenic fungi. Key Accountabilities

Fungal Inoculum Production Platform

  • Drive VBRC fungal inoculum production platform overseeing entire lifecycle
  • Manage mass production and quality control processes
  • Coordinate logistics for inoculum distribution
  • Proactively optimize laboratory methods for bulk production
  • Manage strain inventory ensuring peak efficiency

Biological Efficacy Research

  • Conduct high-impact biological efficacy assays focused on soil-borne diseases
  • Execute testing across laboratory, greenhouse, and semi-field settings
  • Execute comprehensive plant health assessments
  • Conduct seed germination testing and detailed performance evaluations

Technical Support & Expertise

  • Provide expert technical support to Seedcare bioteam
  • Serve as go-to resource for fungal inoculum and soil-borne disease inquiries
  • Support research teams with mycology expertise

Continuous Improvement & Leadership

  • Champion continuous improvement by participating in task forces
  • Utilize OPEX/CI tools to solve operational challenges
  • Lead development of others by managing formal orientation and training
  • Train general assistants and technicians

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Mycology, Biological Science, or Agriculture with microbiology lab methods experience
  • OR AA/AS degree plus 5 years’ relevant experience

Experience & Skills

  • Experience in microbiology-related field
  • Biological trial design, setup, and data capture experience
  • Experience standardizing and summarizing biological data
  • Experience with mycology-related discipline
  • Direct experience with soil-borne plant pathogens

  • Good planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills
  • Good oral, written, communication, and digital skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new skills
