Position Overview
This Agricultural Research Technician III role involves supporting impactful entomology research at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. You will establish and maintain field crop experiments including land preparation, planting, pesticide application, cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting research plots. Work location is split between Lincoln and Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC) near Ithaca, NE, located close to Fremont, Ashland, Wahoo, and just 30 minutes from Lincoln.

Key Responsibilities
Field Crop Experiments & Research Operations
- Establish and maintain field crop experiments including land preparation and planting
- Conduct pesticide application, cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting of research plots
- Communicate with research faculty and staff regarding field experiments and protocols
- Ensure research needs are met and experiments follow scientific methodology
Supervision & Team Leadership
- Supervise and assign duties to student employees as appropriate
- Provide guidance and training to students working on research projects
- Coordinate work assignments ensuring efficient research operations
- Maintain safety standards and proper procedures in student supervision
Facilities & Equipment Management
- Maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment at ENREEC Entomology facilities near Ithaca, NE
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of agricultural equipment and machinery
- Conduct routine maintenance and repairs as needed
- Manage facility resources and equipment inventory
Pesticide Application & Licensing
- Obtain pesticide applicator’s license within one month of hire (Required)
- Conduct safe and effective pesticide applications following regulations
- Maintain records and documentation for pesticide use compliance
- Stay updated on pesticide safety and application best practices
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education & Experience Options (Choose One)
- Option 1: High school diploma plus five years experience in agriculture, farming, or related field
- Option 2: Associate degree in agriculture-related field plus three years relevant experience
- Option 3: Bachelor’s degree in agriculture-related field plus one year relevant experience
- Note: Equivalent education/experience will be considered
Essential Requirements (ALL Required)
- Background in agriculture, agronomy, entomology, or related field with farm experience
- Farm machinery operation experience required
- Computer skills and basic computer literacy essential
- Prioritization, organizational, record keeping, and facilitation skills necessary
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet University driver eligibility criteria
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in agricultural-related field
- Strong mechanical aptitude with large and small scale agricultural equipment
- Experience with entomology research or insect-related agricultural studies
