Position Overview

The Crop Consultant at Nutrien Ag Solutions in Vandalia, IL is a field-based, grower-facing role that combines agricultural sales, agronomic consultancy, and customer relationship management. You will develop new grower prospects across the region, provide expert advice on crop inputs, agricultural chemicals, and production challenges, and implement strategies to grow sales of Nutrien’s proprietary product brands.  Key Responsibilities

Agricultural Sales & Grower Development

  • Develop new grower prospects and build lasting relationships with existing customers to increase agricultural inputs sales
  • Meet and consistently exceed sales goals while managing territory sales to achieve profit margin objectives
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to grow sales of Nutrien’s proprietary brands including Loveland Products, Proven® Seed, and Dyna-Gro® Seed
  • Identify emerging sales opportunities through active market knowledge, grower engagement, and competitor awareness

Crop Consultancy & Agronomic Advisory

  • Consult directly with growers on agricultural production challenges and prescribe appropriate, science-backed actions to resolve issues
  • Provide expert guidance on crop inputs, agricultural chemical applications, and field-level crop management strategies
  • Resolve product performance concerns and support growers through adverse crop result situations with professional credibility
  • Stay current with the latest agronomic research, product innovations, and regulatory requirements relevant to Illinois growers

Customer Satisfaction & Delivery Management

  • Assure full customer satisfaction across all products and services including on-time, accurate delivery and product quality standards
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for grower accounts, responding promptly to inquiries and service needs
  • Collaborate with internal teams including logistics, product, and precision ag services to fulfil customer requirements
  • Build long-term loyalty through consistent, expert advisory service that genuinely supports each grower’s profitability

Credit Management & Accounts Receivable

  • Perform initial credit reviews of new customers to accurately understand and assess credit risk levels
  • Provide all necessary customer financial information to the Credit Manager to support appropriate credit limit decisions
  • Proactively collect outstanding accounts receivables from customers in a professional and timely manner
  • Maintain accurate records of customer financial interactions in compliance with Nutrien’s credit and finance policies

Qualifications & Requirements

Education Requirements

  • University degree in agriculture, agronomy, or a related field is preferred for this Crop Consultant position
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5+ years of direct agriculture industry experience combined with a high school diploma or equivalent is required

Experience Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience applying standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the agriculture industry
  • Demonstrated experience with the application of agricultural chemicals, crop inputs, or related crop production products
  • Sales experience in agriculture, agronomy, or a related customer-facing role is preferred and a strong advantage

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel for sales reporting and customer record management
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to engage professionally with Illinois farming customers and internal teams
  • Self-motivated, results-driven approach with the initiative and resilience required to succeed in a territory sales role
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel across the Vandalia, IL territory to conduct regular grower visits and crop walks
