 What You’ll Do — Scope of Engineering Responsibilities
Electrical & ELV System Design
- Design comprehensive electrical and ELV systems for diverse project types — commercial, residential, infrastructure, and industrial — producing technically rigorous, authority-compliant engineering solutions for Abu Dhabi’s most demanding clients
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, single-line diagrams, and system layouts using AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks — ensuring all documentation meets GHD’s quality standards and client deliverable requirements at every stage
- Design power distribution systems, lighting networks, earthing and bonding installations, emergency power systems, and fully integrated ELV solutions — applying current UAE codes and DEWA/ADDC technical standards throughout the design process
Electrical Calculations & Technical Analysis
- Conduct comprehensive electrical engineering calculations — load analysis, maximum demand assessment, short-circuit fault level analysis, voltage drop calculations, and cable sizing — using industry-standard calculation software and methodologies
- Proficiently use specialist electrical design platforms — AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or equivalent — for schematic design, calculation verification, and complete technical documentation production
- Apply knowledge of embedded systems, control systems, and power distribution design to develop integrated electrical solutions that meet both technical performance requirements and UAE regulatory compliance standards
DEWA, ADDC & UAE Authority Compliance
- Ensure full compliance of all electrical and ELV designs with DEWA (Dubai Electricity & Water Authority), ADDC (Abu Dhabi Distribution Company), and UAE Fire Code technical requirements applicable to each project type and location
- Prepare comprehensive authority submission documentation — assembling complete, technically accurate, and professionally presented packages for regulatory authority design approval in Abu Dhabi and UAE markets
- Stay current with evolving UAE authority technical standards and regulatory updates — proactively identifying changes that impact GHD’s design standards and project compliance requirements
MEP Coordination, Tender Support & Contractor Liaison
- Coordinate actively with MEP mechanical, plumbing, architectural, structural, and infrastructure discipline teams during all design phases — using Navisworks and BIM coordination tools to identify, resolve, and document cross-discipline spatial conflicts
- Support tender documentation preparation — contributing to bills of quantities, technical specifications, and scope of works documents that enable accurate contractor pricing and fully compliant construction execution
- Liaise professionally with suppliers and contractors throughout the construction phase — reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and material submittals to ensure GHD’s design intent and project specifications are correctly maintained on site
Qualifications & Skills
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized and accredited university — mandatory educational qualification for all Electrical and ELV EOI submissions to GHD Abu Dhabi
Experience & Technical Requirements
- Demonstrable professional experience in electrical or ELV design — preferably gained within a UAE or GCC engineering consultancy, MEP contractor, or infrastructure development environment
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks for electrical engineering design, drawing production, and multi-discipline BIM coordination across professional project environments
- Proficiency in electrical design calculation software — AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or equivalent platforms for load calculations, schematic design, and technical documentation
