Key Responsibilities
MEP Design & Engineering Documentation
- Prepare, review, and issue MEP design drawings, specifications, and calculations for mechanical (HVAC/ventilation), electrical (power/lighting/LV), and plumbing (water/drainage/fire) systems
- Design HVAC systems using HAP or IES VE software — calculating cooling and heating loads, selecting appropriate equipment, and producing detailed duct and pipe layout drawings
- Develop electrical designs including single-line diagrams, distribution board schedules, lighting calculations, and low-voltage system layouts in AutoCAD
- Produce plumbing and drainage designs — sizing water supply systems, drainage stacks, and grease traps — and coordinate fire suppression and sprinkler system layouts
- Prepare MEP material submittals, technical datasheets, and equipment schedules for approval by consultants and UAE local authorities
BIM Coordination & Clash Detection
- Develop and maintain MEP BIM models in Autodesk Revit — coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the overall project BIM model
- Conduct clash detection using Navisworks or equivalent tools — identifying and resolving MEP spatial conflicts before construction begins to protect programme and cost
- Collaborate with structural and architectural BIM teams — ensuring MEP systems are fully coordinated, buildable, and accessible for maintenance within the building fabric
- Support IFC model extraction, LOD compliance, and project-wide BIM execution plan requirements as directed by the project BIM Manager
Site Supervision & Construction Quality
- Supervise the installation of MEP systems on site — ensuring all work is carried out in strict accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and UAE authority requirements
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks — verifying that MEP installations meet design intent, code requirements, and construction quality standards before sign-off
- Review and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical queries from subcontractors — providing clear, prompt, and technically accurate responses that keep construction moving
- Attend site coordination meetings and MEP progress reviews — communicating technical updates clearly to project managers, consultants, and subcontractor teams
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Witness and document the testing and commissioning of MEP systems — ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations perform as designed prior to practical completion
- Prepare snagging lists, testing records, and commissioning reports — managing outstanding MEP works to closure in line with project handover timelines
- Support the preparation of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and warranty documentation for MEP systems at project completion and handover to the client
Compliance, Standards & Local Authority Submissions
- Ensure all MEP designs and installations comply with UAE local codes, NFPA fire safety standards, ASHRAE mechanical guidelines, IEC electrical standards, and BS plumbing requirements
- Prepare and submit MEP drawings and technical documentation for Dubai Municipality, DEWA, Civil Defence, and other relevant UAE local authority approvals
- Stay current with updates to UAE building regulations, DEWA connection requirements, and Civil Defence fire safety specifications — incorporating changes into project deliverables
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering — from a recognised university
- Additional professional certifications in BIM (Autodesk Certified Professional, Revit), LEED AP, or UAE engineering authority registration are a meaningful advantage
Experience Requirements
- 3 to 7 years of professional MEP engineering experience — covering design, coordination, and/or site supervision on construction projects in Dubai or the UAE
- UAE experience is strongly preferred — familiarity with Dubai Municipality, DEWA, and Civil Defence submission processes and regulatory requirements is a significant advantage
- Demonstrated experience working across all three MEP disciplines — mechanical, electrical, and plumbing — in a combined or separate capacity on construction projects
Technical Skillsx
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for MEP drawing production — mechanical layouts, electrical diagrams, and plumbing schematics in a 2D drawing environment
- Working knowledge of BIM/Revit for MEP modelling and coordination — including clash detection and model-based design delivery
