Position Overview

This Integration Engineer role at TII’s Robotics Research Center in Abu Dhabi covers three core technical areas: autopilot management, payload integration, and autonomy and mission integration. You will set up, maintain, and fine-tune autopilots for various drone platforms, install and test diverse payloads including imaging, sensing, and actuation systems, and configure autonomy modules and SDK-based systems to enable mission execution and automated operations across civil aerial robotics projects.

 Key Responsibilities

Autopilot Management

  • Set up, maintain, and fine-tune autopilots for various drone platforms, ensuring optimal performance across mission profiles
  • Work with PX4, ArduPilot, DJI SDKs, and equivalent autopilot frameworks across the civil aerial robotics project portfolio
  • Utilize simulation and middleware tools including Gazebo and ROS2 to validate autopilot configurations before deployment

Payload Integration

  • Install, configure, and test diverse payloads to meet specific mission needs across multiple drone platforms
  • Integrate imaging payloads including RGB, multispectral, and thermal cameras
  • Configure sensing payloads including LiDAR, SAR, and environmental sensors
  • Set up actuation payloads including spraying systems, seeding equipment, and custom mission-specific tools

Autonomy & Mission Integration

  • Configure and adapt autonomy modules and SDK-based systems to enable mission execution and automated operations
  • Integrate autonomy components across diverse UAV platforms to support practical, real-world aerial operations
  • Contribute to transitioning research team outputs into functioning, deployable prototype solutions

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in flight control, UAV integration, or related fields
  • Practical experience across different autopilot platforms, payloads, and communication protocols

Technical Skills

  • Hands-on expertise with PX4, ArduPilot, DJI SDKs or equivalents, plus simulation and middleware tools such as Gazebo and ROS2
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Python for embedded development, system integration, and toolchain scripting
  • Strong skills in software and hardware debugging, simulation environments, and integration workflows for flight control systems

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience operating drones with the appropriate pilot license is a strong asset
