Position Overview
The Fuel Farm Maintenance Operator at Dubai Airport is a technically skilled and safety-critical role at the heart of aviation fuel infrastructure operations. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and uninterrupted supply of Jet A1 aviation fuel to aircraft — operating and maintaining the complete fuel farm and hydrant system including fuel transfer pumps, storage tanks, pipelines, hydrant pits, valves, pressure control systems, and all associated mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation equipment.
This role uniquely combines preventive and corrective maintenance capability across multiple engineering disciplines — mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation — with strict aviation safety and HSSE compliance requirements. You will support PLC and SCADA system troubleshooting, conduct fuel quality testing and sampling, maintain power equipment including motors, generators, and UPS systems, and participate actively in emergency response planning and execution. For a maintenance engineer with aviation fuel terminal experience and multi-discipline technical capability, this is a high-responsibility, high-professional-pride role in one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
Why This Role Matters: Every commercial aircraft that departs from a Dubai airport does so because a Fuel Farm Maintenance Operator has ensured that the fuel system delivering Jet A1 to that aircraft is operating safely, reliably, and in full compliance with aviation standards. The quality of fuel sampling, the integrity of filtration systems, the reliability of transfer pumps, and the precision of instrumentation calibration that this role is responsible for are not background engineering tasks — they are the technical foundation of aviation safety. In one of the world’s most active aviation hubs, that responsibility carries genuine professional weight and significant operational importance every single working day.
Key Responsibilities
Fuel Operations, Testing & Record Keeping
- Perform fuel sampling, testing, tank gauging, and density checks — conducting the full suite of aviation fuel quality control procedures required to verify that Jet A1 fuel meets the strict quality specifications before it is delivered to aircraft, and maintaining accurate, complete operational records of all tests, checks, and readings
- Operate and monitor fuel transfer systems and hydrant operations — managing fuel movements between storage tanks and the hydrant distribution network with the accuracy and situational awareness required to maintain uninterrupted, correctly sequenced fuel supply across airport operations
- Monitor tank levels, pressure readings, flow rates, and system alarms — interpreting instrumentation data to identify developing issues before they escalate to operational disruptions, and taking appropriate corrective action within defined operating procedures and Permit-to-Work requirements
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Execute preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on fuel transfer pumps, storage tanks, pipelines, hydrant pits, valves, and pressure control systems — implementing the complete maintenance programme that keeps the fuel farm operating reliably within its designed performance parameters at all times
- Inspect, clean, flush, and calibrate fuel system equipment including filters, water separators, and strainers — ensuring all fuel filtration and water separation components are maintained to the aviation industry standards that protect aircraft fuel systems from contamination
- Maintain motors, generators, UPS systems, battery banks, and power distribution equipment — conducting scheduled maintenance, performing condition monitoring, and responding to power system faults with the electrical engineering competency required to keep critical fuel farm infrastructure continuously operational
- Support troubleshooting and maintenance of PLC and SCADA systems used for fuel transfer control and hydrant operations — applying instrumentation and automation knowledge to diagnose and resolve control system issues that affect fuel farm operational performance and safety
HSSE Compliance & Safety Management
- Ensure full compliance with HSSE requirements, Permit-to-Work procedures, and aviation industry safety standards throughout all fuel farm operations and maintenance activities — maintaining a personal commitment to safety-first working practices that protects colleagues, contractors, aircraft, and airport infrastructure
- Participate actively in risk assessments, safety inspections, and emergency response drills — contributing to the fuel farm’s proactive safety management system and ensuring personal readiness and team coordination capability for emergency response scenarios involving aviation fuel
- Coordinate maintenance and operational activities with operations teams, HSSE professionals, and external contractors — communicating clearly, following defined coordination protocols, and ensuring all work is planned and executed safely within the airport’s operational and regulatory framework
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, safety inspection logs, and Permit-to-Work documentation — ensuring the fuel farm’s compliance audit trail is complete, current, and accessible to all authorised stakeholders including airport authority inspectors and client management
Required Profile & Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electrical & Electronics Engineering — from a recognised institution; either qualification is acceptable with the minimum experience requirement adjusted based on the level of qualification held
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience for degree holders or minimum 5 years for diploma holders — with demonstrable, hands-on experience specifically in aviation fuel terminals, fuel depots, or airport fuel farm environments, not general industrial maintenance roles
- Direct experience with aviation fuel terminal operations — including Jet A1 fuel handling procedures, aviation fuel quality standards, hydrant system operations, and the regulatory framework applicable to airport fuel farm environments
- Proven knowledge of pumps, pipelines, valves, storage tanks, and hydrant systems — with the hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting experience to work on all these components independently and safely within a live aviation fuel infrastructure environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and technical schematics — applying this technical reading capability to guide accurate maintenance work, identify system components, and understand system configuration for troubleshooting purposes
Required Technical Skills
- PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) — ability to support troubleshooting and basic configuration of PLC systems controlling fuel transfer pumps, valves, and automated sequences in fuel farm operations
- SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) — familiarity with SCADA system operation and monitoring for fuel transfer and hydrant system control and alarm management
- Instrumentation — calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of level transmitters, pressure gauges, flow meters, temperature sensors, and other instrumentation critical to fuel farm operations
- Electrical Systems — maintenance and troubleshooting of motors, power distribution panels, UPS systems, generators, and battery banks supporting fuel farm infrastructure
- Mechanical Maintenance — hands-on maintenance of pumps, valves, pipelines, filters, water separators, and other mechanical components across the fuel farm and hydrant system
