Impact: Protect organisations’ most important asset — their workforce — through autonomous vehicle systems that remove humans from dangerous environments

Culture: Collaborative and inclusive — working alongside the brightest minds in autonomous robotics with a strong focus on innovation and personal growth

Why This Integration & Test Engineer Role Stands Out

Frontier Autonomous Systems: Work on cutting-edge AI-powered autonomous ground vehicles — developed by the Technology Innovation Institute for real-world logistics and defence operations

Full Lifecycle Scope: Software integration, vehicle commissioning, sensor calibration, trial planning and execution, post-mission reporting, and commercial handover — all in one role

ATRC / TII Ecosystem: Join the commercialisation arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council — one of the UAE’s most prestigious and mission-critical research institutions

Defence & Logistics Dual Domain: Support both internal trial campaigns and commercial customer deployments across logistics automation and defence autonomous systems

Position Overview

This Integration & Test Engineer at SteerAI in Abu Dhabi integrates autonomy software and configuration packages into autonomous ground vehicle platforms, verifies software builds against release notes and resolves compatibility issues, leads end-to-end vehicle commissioning for trial campaigns and commercial deployments, executes system health checks, sensor calibration, communication link verification, and acceptance testing, translates trial objectives into executable test procedures and scenarios, creates and maintains technical documentation including user manuals, operator training materials, and troubleshooting guides, executes field deployment checklists, troubleshoots hardware and software issues, and maintains cross-training proficiency in operating UGVs through C2/FMS interfaces and remote control systems.

Why This Role Matters: As Integration & Test Engineer at SteerAI in Abu Dhabi, you are the critical link between laboratory-developed autonomous AI technology and real-world operational deployment — integrating the autonomy stack into physical ground vehicles, commissioning sensor suites including LIDAR, GNSS, cameras, and IMUs, executing field trials that validate performance under real conditions, and producing the technical documentation that enables commercial customers to deploy autonomous vehicles that protect their most valuable asset: their people. This is rare, high-impact engineering at the frontier of defence and logistics autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

Software Integration & Vehicle Commissioning

  • Integrate autonomy software and configuration packages into autonomous ground vehicle platforms — verifying software builds against release notes and resolving compatibility issues across hardware and software subsystems
  • Lead end-to-end vehicle commissioning for both trial campaigns and commercial customer deployments — executing system health checks, sensor calibration, communication link verification, and acceptance test procedures
  • Proficiently flash firmware, deploy configuration packages, and run integration and regression tests to confirm platform readiness before field operations

Test Planning, Execution & Field Operations

  • Translate trial objectives into executable test procedures and scenarios — defining success criteria, instrumentation plans, and safety boundaries
  • Direct day-to-day test operations in field environments and make real-time decisions on scenario modifications within the approved safety envelope
  • Execute field deployment checklists alongside UGV / C2 Operators — troubleshooting hardware and software issues, performing field-level maintenance, and escalating technical problems to engineering teams
  • Apply structured test methodologies and evaluation frameworks — DT&E and OT&E — to ensure rigorous and systematic performance validation

Technical Documentation & Post-Mission Reporting

  • Create and maintain user manuals, operator training materials, troubleshooting guides, commissioning checklists, and integration procedures
  • Compile mission metrics and contribute to Operational Insight Briefs and commercial handover documentation for customer deployments
  • Produce high-quality technical writing — proven ability to document complex autonomous system operations clearly for both technical and operational audiences

Vehicle Operation Cross-Training

  • Maintain cross-training proficiency in operating Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) through C2/FMS interfaces and remote control systems
  • Perform real-time telemetry monitoring and emergency intervention procedures during field operations
  • Apply hands-on experience with unmanned ground vehicles, robotic systems, or remote-controlled platforms in operational field environments

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
  • 2+ years of experience in systems integration, test and evaluation, commissioning, or technical operations — in defence, aerospace, robotics, or autonomous systems environments
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle systems and sensor suites — cameras, GNSS, IMU, LIDAR, radar — and communication systems
  • Proficiency in software integration workflows — firmware flashing, configuration package deployment, integration and regression testing
  • Experience with structured test methodologies and evaluation frameworks — DT&E, OT&E, or equivalent
  • Strong technical writing skills — proven ability to produce user manuals, training materials, troubleshooting guides, and test reports
  • Comfortable working in outdoor field environments across various weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license
