Position Overview
This ESS Delivery & Commissioning Engineer role at CATL in Abu Dhabi covers participation in commissioning, project delivery, and acceptance of large-scale BESS projects. You will perform commissioning and troubleshooting of battery containers and cabinets including Fire Suppression Systems, Liquid Cooling (HVAC/TMS), DC Circuits up to 1500V DC, Auxiliary AC Circuits (220V/400V AC), and BMS Communication Systems, assist with PCS and EMS commissioning, support on-site fault diagnosis and corrective actions, participate in SAT and grid connection testing, support customer training, track commissioning issues to closure, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure on-schedule project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
BESS Commissioning & Troubleshooting
- Participate in commissioning, project delivery, and acceptance of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects
- Perform commissioning and troubleshooting of battery containers and cabinets including Fire Suppression Systems (FSS) and Liquid Cooling Systems (HVAC/TMS)
- Commission and troubleshoot DC Circuits up to 1500V DC and Auxiliary AC Circuits (220V/400V AC)
- Commission and verify BMS Communication Systems for correct data flow, alarm handling, and system integration
PCS, EMS & Grid Connection Support
- Assist with the commissioning of Power Conversion Systems (PCS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) with a working understanding of their operating principles
- Participate in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), grid connection testing, and project acceptance activities
- Support on-site issue analysis, fault diagnosis, corrective actions, and issue closure with the project team
- Track commissioning issues through to resolution and ensure projects are delivered in line with schedule requirements
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Customer Support
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality, After-Sales Service, and Project Management to resolve site issues efficiently
- Support customer training on system operation, maintenance, and product usage across completed BESS installations
- Maintain clear communication with project teams and stakeholders throughout the commissioning and delivery lifecycle
- Comply fully with EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) requirements and ensure safe execution of all commissioning activities
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy Technology, or a related discipline (REQUIRED)
Experience Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience in electrical equipment commissioning, energy projects, or related industries
- Experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), photovoltaic (PV), or wind power projects is preferred
- Knowledge of BESS grid-connection processes, substation equipment, and power plant delivery procedures is preferred
- Experience working on international projects or in a multicultural environment is an advantage
- Low-voltage and/or high-voltage electrical certification or equivalent electrical qualifications are preferred
Essential Technical Skills
- Familiarity with primary and secondary electrical systems, energy storage systems, PV systems, and power systems
- Basic understanding of BMS, PCS, and EMS principles and operating characteristics
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as CAN and Modbus RTU/TCP
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and communication topology drawings
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other standard office software for reporting and documentation
- Fluent in English for daily work and on-site communication — strong written and verbal skills required
- Willingness to travel extensively and undertake long-term assignments at project sites overseas
