Position Overview
The Perfumer at Dr Scent in Sharjah is a full-time, on-site fragrance specialist role at the heart of the company’s R&D and laboratory operations. You will create and refine innovative fragrance formulations from concept through to final specification, oversee laboratory operations and raw material quality control, manage multi-site inventory, research and implement emerging scent technologies such as Encapsulation and ActiMoods, engage directly with key suppliers and clients on bespoke fragrance projects, lead new product launches, and deliver technical training to sales teams and international agents. Key Responsibilities
Fragrance Formulation & R&D Innovation
- Create and refine innovative fragrance formulations from initial concept through to final technical specifications — covering fine fragrances, functional scents, and bespoke client briefs
- Research and implement emerging scent technologies including Encapsulation and ActiMoods — staying at the cutting edge of global fragrance science and application
- Drive R&D innovation at Dr Scent — developing new formulation approaches, testing novel aroma compounds, and refining existing fragrance products for improved performance
- Manage the full formulation development cycle — from initial scent ideation and brief interpretation through testing, evaluation, client feedback integration, and final sign-off
Laboratory Operations & Quality Control
- Oversee all laboratory operations at Dr Scent’s Head Office in Sharjah — ensuring efficient, compliant, and well-organized lab processes at all times
- Manage raw material quality control — evaluating incoming materials, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring only approved, compliant ingredients are used in formulations
- Manage multi-site inventory of raw materials — maintaining accurate stock levels, ordering schedules, and ensuring material availability for all active and pipeline projects
- Maintain meticulous lab documentation, formulation records, and quality control logs in alignment with industry and regulatory standards applicable to fragrance manufacturing
Supplier & Client Engagement
- Engage directly with key suppliers — evaluating new raw materials, negotiating technical partnerships, and ensuring a reliable supply of quality aroma compounds for Dr Scent’s operations
- Work closely with clients on bespoke fragrance development projects — understanding their briefs, presenting formulation options, and refining scents based on client feedback
- Build and maintain strong long-term professional relationships with international suppliers and clients to support Dr Scent’s growing global fragrance business
Product Launches & Technical Training
- Lead and support new fragrance product launches — coordinating formulation, technical documentation, and communication with commercial and marketing teams
- Deliver technical training on fragrance formulation, scent evaluation, and product knowledge to Dr Scent’s internal sales teams and international agents
- Support the sales and business development functions with technical expertise — providing credible, expert-level fragrance knowledge to support client acquisition and retention
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Perfumery, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific or technical field is required
- Professional perfumery training or certification from a recognized perfumery institution is a highly valued additional qualification for this role
Experience & Specialist Skills
- Proven professional track record as a Perfumer with demonstrated laboratory and operations management experience in the fragrance or related chemical industry
- Highly developed olfactory sense — the ability to evaluate, differentiate, and create complex fragrance compositions with precision and creative confidence
- Strong technical expertise in aroma compounds, raw material chemistry, and the science of fragrance formulation and stability
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage complex laboratory operations, multi-site inventory, and multiple active formulation projects simultaneously
Language & Travel Requirements
- Fluency in both Arabic and English — spoken and written — is mandatory for this role at Dr Scent’s Sharjah Head Office in the UAE
