Position Overview

The Quality Lab Technician at this Liwa, Abu Dhabi sand processing plant is a technically demanding and operationally critical role responsible for conducting rigorous laboratory testing and quality control inspections on all sand products — ensuring full compliance with company specifications, client requirements, and applicable API/ISO industry standards. You will perform routine and specialized sand tests including sieve analysis, grain size distribution, moisture content, turbidity, and specific gravity; record and interpret results accurately; calibrate and operate laboratory instruments; support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA); maintain comprehensive quality documentation; perform equipment maintenance and calibration; comply with all HSE requirements; and collaborate closely with production and operations teams to drive continuous quality improvement at the Liwa sand plant.

Why This Role Matters: As Quality Lab Technician at the Liwa sand processing plant, your test results are the technical foundation on which every product delivery decision is made. Your sieve analysis data, grain size measurements, moisture content readings, and API test reports determine whether each batch of sand meets the stringent specifications that oilfield clients and construction customers depend on — specifications where accuracy is non-negotiable because the performance of downhole equipment, well completions, and construction structures depends directly on the quality of the sand products your laboratory certifies.

 Key Responsibilities

1. Laboratory Testing & Analysis

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on sand samples — including sieve analysis, grain size distribution, moisture content, turbidity testing, and specific gravity — following validated test methods and company standard operating procedures
  • Conduct API and ISO standard testing relevant to oilfield sand — including frac sand quality testing where applicable — ensuring all analyses meet the technical specifications required by oilfield services clients and industry standards
  • Record and interpret all test results accurately and promptly — identifying out-of-specification results immediately and escalating to the QC Supervisor for investigation and corrective action before non-conforming product is released
  • Calibrate and operate all laboratory equipment and analytical instruments in full accordance with calibration schedules, manufacturer specifications, and ISO QMS requirements

2. Quality Control — Incoming Materials & Finished Products

  • Monitor all incoming raw materials and finished sand products for compliance with defined quality specifications — conducting inspection and testing activities at every critical quality control point in the sand processing operation
  • Identify and report deviations from quality standards immediately — documenting non-conformances clearly, notifying relevant departments, and initiating product hold procedures where required to prevent release of non-conforming sand
  • Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for non-conforming materials — participating in root cause analysis, documenting CAPA records, and following up on corrective measure implementation to verify effectiveness
  • Assist in implementing quality control procedure improvements and process optimization initiatives — contributing practical laboratory observations and data to continuous improvement efforts at the Liwa sand plant

3. Documentation & Quality Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and properly organized laboratory records, test logs, and QC reports — ensuring all documentation meets ISO/QMS requirements and provides full traceability for all tested sand batches
  • Prepare clear and structured daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports for plant management — summarizing test results, non-conformances, quality trends, and key performance indicators in a professional and timely manner
  • Ensure all quality documentation is maintained in accordance with ISO quality management system requirements — supporting internal audits, client audits, and regulatory inspections with complete and accurate records

4. Equipment Maintenance & Calibration

  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of all laboratory equipment and instruments — following preventive maintenance schedules and ensuring all instruments are in good working condition with current calibration certificates
  • Maintain a comprehensive equipment calibration log — tracking calibration due dates, recording calibration results, and ensuring no uncalibrated equipment is used for product testing or quality acceptance decisions
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams for laboratory equipment repairs when required — communicating equipment issues clearly and following up to minimize laboratory downtime and disruption to quality testing activities

5. Health, Safety & Environment Compliance

  • Follow all HSE policies, procedures, and safety standards applicable to the laboratory environment and wider sand plant facility — demonstrating consistent personal commitment to a safe and hazard-free working environment
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of all chemical reagents and laboratory materials — following applicable COSHH, MSDS, and waste management requirements at all times
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free laboratory workspace — performing regular housekeeping activities and promptly addressing any identified safety risks or environmental hazards

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Audit Support

  • Work closely with production and operations teams to support continuous quality improvement — communicating test results, quality trends, and product performance data clearly and proactively to relevant departments
  • Support all internal and external audits and inspections — preparing laboratory documentation, demonstrating testing procedures, and answering auditor queries professionally and accurately
  • Communicate quality issues and test findings clearly to department heads and the QC Supervisor — ensuring all stakeholders have timely, accurate information needed to make sound product and process decisions
