Position Overview
The Senior Corporate Accountant at micro1 is a high-ownership, fully remote financial reporting role that sits at the core of the company’s financial integrity. You will own the end-to-end month-end close process, maintain and reconcile the general ledger, prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements, perform balance sheet reconciliations, support external audits, strengthen internal controls, and drive continuous improvement to close processes for greater speed and accuracy. With 3–5 years of focused general ledger and close experience, a strong command of ERP systems and Excel, and the discipline to deliver in a fast-paced startup environment without direct supervision, this is a role for a finance professional who takes genuine pride in financial accuracy and the quality of the data that business leaders rely on to make confident decisions.
Why This Role Matters: As Senior Corporate Accountant at micro1, you are the person who makes sure the numbers are right — every month, every quarter, every year. The leadership team makes strategic business decisions based on the financial statements you prepare and the general ledger you own. The external auditors form their opinions based on the schedules, reconciliations, and documentation you provide. The internal controls you maintain protect the company’s financial integrity from errors, omissions, and misstatements that could undermine stakeholder confidence. In a fast-moving startup environment where every day counts, your ability to close the books accurately and on time is not just a technical function — it is a competitive advantage that lets the business move forward with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & General Ledger Ownership
- Own the end-to-end month-end close process — including preparation and posting of all journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and period-end adjustments within agreed close timelines
- Maintain and continuously reconcile the general ledger — investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly and documenting all investigations and resolutions to audit-ready standard
- Ensure the close process is completed accurately and on time every period — meeting tight deadlines without sacrificing the data accuracy that every downstream financial report depends on
- Identify and implement improvements to the month-end close process — reducing cycle time, increasing accuracy, and eliminating manual workarounds through better processes and automation
Financial Statement Preparation & GAAP Compliance
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP — income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement, with full supporting schedules
- Perform comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations — ensuring every account is fully substantiated, documented, and reconciled to supporting evidence before financial statements are finalised
- Apply deep knowledge of GAAP, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation — ensuring all accounting treatments are correctly applied and consistently documented
- Partner with leadership to ensure financial data is audit-ready and decision-ready at all times — providing management with reliable, timely financial information that supports confident strategic decision-making
Audit Support & Internal Controls
- Support external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation — ensuring the audit process runs smoothly and all auditor requests are fulfilled accurately and on time
- Maintain and continuously strengthen internal controls around the close and reporting cycle — identifying control weaknesses, proposing improvements, and implementing stronger financial governance practices
- Ensure all accounting records are maintained in a fully auditable state throughout the year — not just at year-end — so that audit readiness is a permanent condition, not a seasonal activity
- Communicate confidently with external auditors and internal leadership on accounting matters — providing clear, well-supported explanations of accounting positions and reconciliation outcomes
Process Improvement & AI-Assisted Automation
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve the close and reporting process — implementing changes that reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and shorten the month-end close cycle for the business
- Bring exposure to or genuine enthusiasm for AI tools and automated accounting workflows — contributing to micro1’s mission of applying technology to make finance functions faster and more reliable
- Work effectively and independently in a fully remote, fast-paced startup environment — demonstrating the self-management, discipline, and proactive communication that remote high-performance finance roles demand
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance — required as the educational foundation for this senior corporate accounting role
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CA (Chartered Accountant) licence is preferred — or demonstrable active progress toward professional certification is a strong differentiating advantage
Experience Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of professional accounting experience with a clear, specific focus on general ledger management and month-end close in a corporate or startup accounting environment
- Hands-on experience with ERP or accounting software systems — comfortable navigating and working within digital accounting platforms for journal entries, GL maintenance, and reporting
- Experience working in a startup, tech, or remote-first environment is a meaningful advantage — familiarity with the pace, ambiguity, and ownership expectations of high-growth company finance
Technical Skills
- Deep, practical knowledge of GAAP — applied to journal entry preparation, balance sheet reconciliation, accrual accounting, and financial statement presentation
- Strong command of Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel — for reconciliation schedules, close checklists, variance analysis, and management reporting
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills — required for audit support, leadership reporting, and cross-functional finance communication in a remote-first organisation
- Strong attention to detail with the proven ability to manage tight close deadlines without sacrificing the accuracy and completeness of financial data
Preferred Qualifications
- Active CPA licence or verifiable progress toward CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent professional accounting certification
- Exposure to AI tools or automated accounting workflows — particularly valuable in micro1’s technology-forward finance environment where automation is actively pursued
