Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Design & Optimisation
- Design, build, and continuously optimise data pipelines to process human-generated datasets at massive scale and high throughput
- Develop and maintain robust backend services that support both real-time streaming and large-scale batch data processing workflows
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to maintain platform reliability, visibility, and proactive issue detection
- Debug and resolve complex systems-level performance issues across distributed data infrastructure components efficiently
Distributed Systems & Cloud Infrastructure
- Design and operate distributed data systems using technologies including Kafka, Spark, and similar high-throughput platforms
- Leverage cloud platforms — AWS, GCP, or Azure — to build, scale, and manage data infrastructure for global operations
- Apply containerisation and orchestration tools including Docker and Kubernetes to ensure efficient, scalable service deployment
- Ensure data storage and retrieval performance using both SQL and NoSQL database technologies for diverse data access patterns
Architecture, Security & Governance
- Contribute to architectural decisions that meaningfully enhance the scalability and performance of the human data platform
- Implement data governance, security, and compliance best practices to protect human-generated data across all pipeline stages
- Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and quality across all downstream consumers
- Champion engineering best practices including code quality, documentation, and system design across the distributed team
Qualifications & Requirements
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or Go for backend and data platform development — at least one language required at senior level
- Proven experience with distributed systems including Kafka, Apache Spark, or equivalent large-scale data processing frameworks
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms — AWS, GCP, or Azure — for building and operating data infrastructure at scale
- Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases for data storage, querying, modelling, and high-performance data retrieval
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools including Docker and Kubernetes for scalable service management
- Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices in large-scale data platform environments
- Ability to design and optimise data pipelines for performance, throughput, reliability, and horizontal scalability
