Position Overview

The Crop Protection Sales Representative at Syngenta covers the Western New York and Western Pennsylvania territory — optimally based in the Greater Rochester area — as an integral member of a high-performing District Sales team. This professional achieves sales, profit and market share targets with channel partners, key producers and retail accounts; develops and maintains trusted customer relationships; builds and executes annual business plans; partners with Seed Care and AgriEdge Specialists; creates demand at the customer level; manages trade shows and product launches; stewards the Syngenta crop protection portfolio; and manages operational budget and marketing funds — all within a remote-flexible, field-active role covering one of the most agriculturally productive regions of the northeastern United States.

Territory Coverage — Western New York & Western Pennsylvania

This Crop Protection Sales Representative role covers the Western New York region — including the Rochester, Buffalo, Finger Lakes and surrounding agricultural areas — and Western Pennsylvania farming communities. The optimal base location for the territory is the Greater Rochester, NY area. Up to 75% weekly travel within the territory is required for field sales, customer visits, product demonstrations and trade events.

Why This Role Matters: Every growing season, farmers across Western New York and Western Pennsylvania face crop threats from weeds, insects, diseases, weather extremes and soil challenges that — without the right crop protection solutions — can devastate yields and livelihoods. As Syngenta’s Crop Protection Sales Representative for this territory, you are the farmer’s trusted agronomic partner, the channel’s primary technical resource and Syngenta’s commercial engine on the ground. Your recommendations protect crops, your product knowledge creates value, your customer relationships build trust — and your sales performance ultimately contributes to the food security and agricultural prosperity of farming communities across two states.

 Key Responsibilities

Territory Sales Management & Market Share Growth

  • Achieve sales, profit and market share targets across the Western New York / Western Pennsylvania territory — working with channel partners, key producers and retail customers as part of Syngenta’s broader district sales and marketing plan to drive profitable, sustainable growth.
  • Develop and implement annual business plans for channel partners and retail accounts within the territory — influencing end-user demand at the farmer level through well-executed commercial planning and proactive account management.
  • Manage operational budget, variable selling expenses and marketing funds within Commercial Unit and District guidelines — demonstrating strong business acumen and financial discipline in all territory commercial activities.
  • Prepare accurate sales forecasts, territory performance reports and account plans — providing District Sales management with timely, data-driven visibility on territory pipeline, account health and growth opportunities.

Customer Relationship Development & Technical Selling

  • Develop and maintain strong, trusted relationships with channel partners, retail accounts, key producers and other customers within the Western New York / Western Pennsylvania territory — building the reputation as a reliable, knowledgeable and commercially valuable Syngenta partner.
  • Create demand at the customer and farmer level — ensuring producers are fully informed about Syngenta crop protection products, applications and agronomic value, and have genuine, well-supported interest in Syngenta solutions for their specific crop protection challenges.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for all channel partners and retail accounts within the territory — resolving issues promptly, managing complaints professionally and consistently representing the Syngenta brand with integrity and agronomic credibility.
  • Partner collaboratively with Syngenta Seed Care and AgriEdge Specialists to develop integrated territory opportunities — presenting the full Syngenta portfolio as a cohesive, value-added crop management solution rather than individual product transactions.

Field Activities, Trade Shows & Product Launches

  • Represent Syngenta at trade shows, farm tours, field days and product launch events within the Western New York and Western Pennsylvania territory — building brand presence, generating leads and deepening customer engagement with Syngenta’s crop protection portfolio.
  • Act as an active steward of the Syngenta crop protection portfolio — making evidence-based agronomic recommendations tailored to customer needs, managing field complaints and issues in partnership with Syngenta Agronomy and maintaining product performance integrity across the territory.
  • Apply knowledge of agronomics, cropping practices, pest management and agricultural technology trends to deliver technically credible, commercially persuasive crop protection sales conversations with both retail channel partners and end-user producers.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Marketing, Science or a closely related field — providing the foundational academic credential for a technically credible crop protection sales career at Syngenta.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in agronomy, farm management, farm retail or crop protection / seed industry — demonstrating practical commercial and agronomic capability in an agricultural sales or advisory context.
