Position Overview
This Technician role involves repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment and systems across simple and combined cycle power generation blocks and Balance of Plant, attending preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance with minimal supervision, restoring mechanical systems as quickly as possible, selecting the right tools and methods with a clear understanding of associated risks, directing contract workforce to carry out repairs in line with agreed plans, and working in adherence with EHS standards and plant operating requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs
- Repair and maintain a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems in the power plant
- Attend preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance with minimum direction and supervision, including on-call duties when required
- Restore mechanical systems as quickly as possible
Job Planning & Execution
- Assist Technician Engineers or attend allocated jobs independently, with a clear understanding of methods, procedures and associated risks
- Select the required tools and equipment to complete work safely and effectively
- Direct contract workforce to carry out maintenance repairs and services in line with agreed plans
Safety & Reliability
- Carry out maintenance in adherence with EHS standards and plant operating requirements
- Monitor repeated breakdowns and suggest and implement resolutions to avoid recurrence
- Accept direction from a supervisor verbally or in writing
Working Conditions
- Significant exposure to conditions inherent in a power plant, including high-pressure steam, high voltage, arc flash, high magnetic fields, high noise, fumes, heat, humidity, dust, height, and chemical, acid and mineral oil splash
- Avoiding danger, accident and health risk is a major, ongoing responsibility
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or Craft/Trade certificate, or equivalent qualification
Experience Requirements
- Diploma holders: 5 years’ experience in a similar position in a thermal power plant
- Craft/Trade certificate holders: 8 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance
- Hands-on experience on GE Frame 9E/9FA gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, thermal desalination and other BOP equipment overhauls
Essential Skills
- Familiarity with all mechanical maintenance tools
- Computer literacy is essential
- Conversant in gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, compressors, pumps, cooling towers and reverse osmosis plants
- Good standard of spoken and written English
- Excellent interpersonal skills and assertiveness
- Teamwork, including shift work
