The Ag Credit Analyst supports Ag Lenders by conducting thorough financial analysis and credit underwriting — inputting and organising financial statements and tax returns into analysis software, evaluating loan requests, determining performance ratios and cash flow feasibility, assessing risk ratings, recommending loan covenants, providing collateral valuations, and monitoring the loan portfolio for regulatory compliance. The role also involves preparing comprehensive credit memos for Senior Management and Credit Committee review, assisting with portfolio stress testing, maintaining knowledge of BND and government-sponsored lending programmes, and collaborating with Ag Lenders on member site visits and business development activities. Why This Role Matters: At Town & Country Credit Union, the Ag Credit Analyst is not just processing spreadsheets — you are the analytical backbone of a lending operation that directly funds North Dakota farms, supports agricultural families, and helps rural communities thrive. • Apply sound financial analysis techniques to evaluate the overall financial health of farm operations and Ag business borrowers
  • Maintain working knowledge of BND (Bank of North Dakota) and other government-sponsored agricultural lending programmes

Credit Underwriting & Risk Assessment

  • Evaluate agricultural loan requests — determining performance ratios, cash flow feasibility, and the adequacy of risk ratings
  • Make well-reasoned and clearly documented credit recommendations based on thorough financial analysis and applicable lending policy
  • Recommend appropriate loan covenants, provide collateral valuations, and ensure all credit decisions are well-supported by data
  • Assist in portfolio stress testing and reporting on aggregate Ag loan exposures across the credit union’s agricultural portfolio

Compliance, Portfolio Monitoring & Credit Memos

  • Monitor the Ag loan portfolio to ensure ongoing alignment with applicable North Dakota state and federal lending regulations
  • Prepare comprehensive, professionally written credit memos for submission to Senior Management and the Credit Committee
  • Ensure all credit analysis activities and loan recommendations comply with the credit union’s internal credit policies and standards
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and organised documentation across all credit analysis work and portfolio monitoring activities

Collaboration with Ag Lenders & Business Development

  • Work closely and collaboratively with Ag Lenders to develop business activities and support member relationship management
  • Occasionally join Loan Officers on field site visits and member presentations — contributing Ag credit analysis expertise
  • Support a “sales and service” culture — recommending credit products and services that genuinely benefit agricultural members
  • Communicate financial analysis findings clearly to team members and management through strong written and oral presentation skills

Qualifications & Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • A four-year college degree in finance, accounting, agricultural business, economics, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience
  • Previous experience as a Credit Analyst in a financial institution or agricultural lending environment is strongly preferred

Technical Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of lending principles, loan services, financial statement analysis, and credit risk assessment methodologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office — particularly Excel — for financial data organisation, analysis, and credit reporting activities
  • Experience with Abrigo credit software or similar credit analysis platforms is a significant and valued advantage for this role
  • Ability to quickly master business-related computer systems, analysis software, and credit union technology platforms

Essential Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills — able to explain financial findings clearly to team members, Ag Lenders, and management
