Job Objective
The Inspector is responsible for implementing inspection and control procedures related to the safety of imported food products and dry herbal feed within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The role ensures full compliance with approved food safety regulations, standards, and control programs — contributing directly to the protection of public health and the effective enforcement of food safety legislation at Abu Dhabi’s air and seaports. Duties & Responsibilities
Ports Inspection & Food Safety Enforcement
- Ensure full compliance with the Authority’s policies, procedures, and the approved Ports Control strategy across all import inspection activities at Abu Dhabi air and seaports
- Monitor the implementation of operational plans related to inspection and control of imported food products and dry herbal feed entering the Emirate of Abu Dhabi
- Apply approved inspection and control procedures to enforce relevant food safety legislation and technical regulations — taking appropriate administrative and legal actions against all non-compliant consignments without exception
- Conduct inspection activities for meat and meat product consignments arriving through Abu Dhabi’s air and seaports — actively preventing food-borne diseases and verifying suitability for human consumption
- Take all necessary actions for the destruction or prohibition of non-compliant imported food products in strict accordance with approved Authority procedures and regulatory requirements
- Follow up on the implementation of sampling plans for regulatory, study, and survey purposes — ensuring all sampling activities are completed accurately and within defined timelines
Reporting, Database & Compliance Management
- Prepare and submit accurate, timely periodic inspection reports to the direct supervisor — maintaining the highest standards of documentation quality and regulatory reporting
- Ensure continuous updating of the database of importing companies and registration of food products — maintaining accurate, comprehensive, and current records at all times
- Maintain full awareness of Business Continuity Management requirements and internal control measures related to the Authority’s enterprise risk management framework
- Coordinate and maintain effective communication channels with other departments and sections within ADAFSA to enhance operational efficiency and collective enforcement impact across the Emirate
- Provide effective professional support to stakeholders through proactive communication — ensuring high-quality, consistent service delivery across all interactions with regulated parties
- Contribute actively to fostering a positive, collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork, innovation, and knowledge sharing across the inspection team
Who Should Apply?
- Veterinary Science Graduates: With a BSc in Veterinary Science and 2+ years of relevant food safety or inspection experience — ideally in a port, border control, or regulatory enforcement setting in the UAE or GCC
- Food Safety Professionals: Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Food Safety or Food Science with hands-on regulatory inspection, compliance, or enforcement experience in government or accredited bodies
