Position Overview
This Cloud Software Engineer role at MORSE Corp is a full-time position available across the company’s Cambridge MA, Arlington VA, and Seattle WA locations. You will join an elite, specially selected team of scientists, engineers, and software developers building cutting-edge applications that provide AI, machine learning, simulation, and mission planning capabilities to the US Department of Defense. Working in a collaborative, Agile environment, you will design and develop scalable Python-based software, build and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP, manage compliant cloud service deployments, conduct code and design reviews, contribute to new codebases built on object-oriented principles, and stay at the forefront of the most advanced software engineering practices in the US defense technology sector. US citizenship and eligibility for a DoD security clearance (Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI) are essential requirements for this role.

Key Responsibilities
Cloud Software Design & Python Development
- Design and develop scalable, efficient, and highly reliable software applications using Python across a range of DoD-focused AI, simulation, and mission planning platforms
- Contribute to the development of new codebases that emphasize object-orientation, modularity, and long-term maintainability across complex national security software systems
- Participate actively in design reviews, code reviews, and pair programming sessions to ensure the highest standards of code quality and team knowledge sharing
- Stay current with the latest software engineering trends, frameworks, tools, and cloud technologies — and bring relevant innovations into the MORSE Corp engineering practice
Cloud Infrastructure Development & Maintenance
- Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or GCP environments — ensuring systems are scalable, cost-efficient, and built for mission-critical reliability
- Oversee the compliant deployment of cloud services, ensuring all infrastructure conforms to DoD security guidelines and applicable compliance frameworks
- Build and manage infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to automate provisioning and ensure consistent, repeatable cloud environment deployment
- Manage containerized application environments using Docker, Docker-compose, or Kubernetes — supporting CI/CD pipelines and microservices architecture at scale
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Agile Delivery
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of engineers, data scientists, and program managers to deliver high-quality software products with seamless integration and deployment
- Operate effectively within Agile development methodologies — including Scrum or Kanban — contributing to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and regular delivery cycles
- Design and implement microservice architecture patterns that ensure software modularity, scalability, and operational flexibility across DoD customer environments
- Communicate technical concepts, design decisions, and project status clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization
Database Management & Version Control
- Apply strong understanding of relational databases to design, query, and maintain data structures that support high-performance national security software applications
- Utilize Git and other version control systems rigorously to maintain clean, well-documented code histories and support collaborative multi-team software development
- Contribute to documentation standards, code commenting practices, and engineering knowledge bases that support the long-term maintainability of MORSE Corp’s software products
- Ensure data integrity, system reliability, and compliance throughout all development, testing, staging, and production deployment workflows
Qualifications & Requirements
Citizenship & Clearance Requirements
- US Citizenship is required — this is a non-negotiable requirement for all MORSE Corp engineering positions supporting the US National Security Ecosystem
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance at the Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI level as required by the specific project assignment
Technical Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in Python for production software development in cloud-based, distributed, or AI/ML application environments
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience working with AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud platforms — including infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and management
- Experience with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation for infrastructure-as-code provisioning and environment automation
- Demonstrated experience with Docker, Docker-compose, or Kubernetes for containerized application deployment and orchestration
- Strong understanding of relational databases and version control systems — particularly Git — for collaborative, high-quality software engineering
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies (Scrum or Kanban) and microservice architecture patterns in a production engineering environment
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline — or significant equivalent professional experience
- Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience delivering production-quality software in cloud or enterprise environments
