Position Overview
As a Software Solutions Engineer at KNAPP Group in Kennesaw, Georgia, you will be at the technical forefront of warehouse automation — creating logistical software solutions that meet the specific, complex needs of KNAPP’s global customers across healthcare, retail, food, fashion, and manufacturing sectors. Your work will span the full project lifecycle: from developing technical project documents and programming process and systems solutions using Process4Biz BPMN, to coordinating layouts in VectorWorks, performing strategic data analysis, leading PO workshops, managing customer communication, and mentoring new team members. Key Responsibilities
Logistical Software Solution Design & Development
- Develop cost-effective and performance-optimized software solutions that address customer-specific intralogistics requirements within KNAPP’s automated warehouse systems
- Program process, software, and systems solutions using Process4Biz BPMN and prepare comprehensive Technical Descriptions aligned with IT and operational requirements
- Create detailed solution descriptions including solution boundaries, interface specifications, and component dependencies for complex intralogistics automation projects
- Perform data analysis and contribute to strategic system development initiatives that advance KNAPP’s software capabilities and competitive positioning
Technical Project Documentation & Layout Coordination
- Prepare technical project documents — including Process Descriptions, Development Specifications, Calculations, and Project Timelines — in close cooperation with customers, suppliers, and internal departments
- Actively coordinate and support the creation of facility and system layouts using VectorWorks, ensuring designs meet all functional, financial, and OSHA compliance requirements
- Create Development Orders (ZDR / DevOps) and assist in executing solution changes before and after implementation — supporting seamless project delivery
- Document finalized project deliverables comprehensively and serve as the qualified, experienced point of contact for all project-specific technical inquiries
Software Architecture — WMS, WES, WCS, SRC & Picking Technologies
- Apply deep knowledge of intralogistics software architecture — including WMS, WES, WCS, and SRC systems — to design solutions that integrate seamlessly within KNAPP’s automation ecosystem
- Evaluate and specify picking technologies including automated storage systems, goods-to-person, PTL, Central Belt Systems (CBS), AMRs/AGVs, and sorters for customer-specific deployment strategies
- Make active decisions in selecting software and control components — managing budgeted price requests (BPA) and specifications with functional departments to ensure technically and financially sound solutions
- Provide technical support to the Sales Department, especially on complex projects where deep software and systems expertise is required to develop winning, compliant proposals
Customer Communication, Project Management & PO Workshops
- Lead and actively participate in PO Workshops — structuring complex customer requirements into clear, actionable development specifications and project roadmaps
- Manage customer communication and project presentations both on-site at client locations across the US and at KNAPP headquarters — preparing high-quality graphical presentation documents
- Investigate, analyze, and recommend technology improvements, upgrades, and modifications to management — contributing to KNAPP’s continuous innovation agenda
- Travel to various US client sites (approximately 30% of the time) to deliver technical presentations, conduct workshops, and provide hands-on project support
Team Leadership, Training & Strategic Support
- Lead project teams as Software Lead, taking shared responsibility for the quality, on-time delivery, and technical integrity of each developed logistics software solution
- Provide training and ongoing guidance for new employees — sharing technical expertise and KNAPP system knowledge to build team capability and confidence
- Support KNAPP’s strategic development initiatives by contributing expertise in intralogistics software, warehouse automation trends, and customer solution innovation
- Maintain excellent knowledge of logistics and complex warehouse workflow processes — using that insight to ensure KNAPP’s solutions consistently exceed customer functional expectations
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline — required for this Software Solutions Engineer role
- Additional qualifications in intralogistics, supply chain systems, or warehouse automation technologies are a meaningful plus and will be given preference
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in intralogistics automation software and process design — working with WMS, WES, WCS, SRC, or comparable warehouse management and control systems
- Preferred 3+ years of warehouse operation and automation experience — including exposure to picking technologies, automated storage systems, AMRs/AGVs, and sorter solutions
- Knowledge of KNAPP products, systems, functions, and application areas is advantageous and will be considered as a strong differentiator in the selection process
Technical Software Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office suite including Advanced Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint; Oracle (Plus), Process4Biz BPMN, Doxis, TortoiseSVN, Filemaker Pro, and SAP
- Working knowledge of VectorWorks (basics) and AutoCAD (basics) for layout coordination and facility design documentation support
- Solid understanding of network infrastructures, interface communication protocols, programming fundamentals, databases, and data structures relevant to intralogistics systems
- English proficiency is required; one additional language — Spanish or German — is strongly preferred for effective collaboration with KNAPP’s international project and customer teams
