Position Overview
This Chemist role at Ecolab in Abu Dhabi is a full-time, on-site technical laboratory position responsible for executing and leading chemical analyses and experiments in support of Ecolab’s technical platform development programme. You will conduct experiments on organic and inorganic substances to determine and evaluate their applications, develop new methods of processing and production, examine potential new uses for technical platforms, collect and analyze data, and summarize findings in written technical reports and project checkpoint presentations. The role also requires contributing to differentiated technology and product development, maintaining accurate laboratory records, and ensuring proprietary innovations are protected through appropriate legal instruments such as patents. The ideal candidate holds a BSc in Chemistry, has 3 to 5 years of experience in chemical blending or third-party laboratory environments, and brings operating knowledge of analytical laboratory instrumentation including spectrophotometric, quantitative, qualitative, and chromatographic analysis. GMP experience is a preferred and meaningful advantage.

Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Analysis & Experimental Work
- Conduct analyses and experiments on organic and inorganic substances to determine and rigorously evaluate their technical applications within Ecolab’s product and technology platforms
- Perform experiments aimed at improving upon or accurately duplicating various materials and chemical substances — producing reliable, reproducible, and well-documented experimental results
- Apply operating knowledge of analytical laboratory instrumentation to conduct physical analysis, spectrophotometric analysis, quantitative analysis, and qualitative analysis as required
- Apply preferred knowledge of chromatographic analysis techniques to support advanced chemical characterization and product quality evaluation activities
Technical Platform & Product Development
- Examine and evaluate potential new uses for Ecolab’s technical platforms — identifying application opportunities that can deliver differentiated value to industrial and commercial customers
- Contribute meaningfully to the development of differentiated technology, new products, novel processes, and innovative systems that advance Ecolab’s competitive position
- Engage in applied research to develop new methods of processing and production — combining scientific rigor with commercial awareness to deliver technically and commercially relevant innovations
- Develop innovative applications and extensions of existing or new products, processes, systems, or methods of major importance to Ecolab’s business objectives and customer outcomes
Data Collection, Technical Reporting & Project Management
- Collect, analyze, and interpret technical data in support of product application and platform development projects — ensuring findings are accurate, statistically sound, and clearly presented
- Summarize experimental findings in written technical reports and present conclusions with clear recommendations at key project checkpoints to technical and management stakeholders
- Maintain accurate and complete laboratory notebook records, filing reports for all experimental work in compliance with Ecolab’s documentation and regulatory standards
- Select and develop appropriate methods, tests, and procedures for complex assignments — applying scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, and draw valid technical conclusions
Intellectual Property & GMP Compliance
- Ensure that proprietary project innovations are identified early and protected with appropriate legal instruments — including patents and other intellectual property protections — in collaboration with Ecolab’s legal team
- Conduct all laboratory activities under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions — maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, documentation, and procedural compliance
- Provide professional divisional support across Ecolab’s technical functions — contributing technical expertise to support product applications and cross-functional project teams
- Demonstrate initiative and independent working capability — managing multiple laboratory tasks and project contributions simultaneously without close supervision
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry — specifically noted as the preferred discipline for Nalco operations; Biology or Biochemistry degrees may not be the ideal fit for this particular technical role
- Additional academic or professional training in analytical chemistry, industrial chemistry, or chemical engineering is a valuable complement to the core chemistry degree requirement
Experience Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of relevant laboratory experience is preferred — with a minimum of 2 years considered for candidates with strong technical competency
- Experience in the chemical blending industry is the first and most preferred background — followed by experience in third-party laboratories as a strong alternative
- Operating knowledge of analytical laboratory instrumentation covering physical, spectrophotometric, quantitative, qualitative, and preferably chromatographic analysis techniques
- Previous experience working under GMP conditions is a preferred and meaningful advantage for this role
