Position Overview
The Supply Chain Analyst / Mitarbeiter Arbeitsvorbereitung at Kennametal Vohenstrauß supports the production planning team in manufacturing solid carbide tools — covering monthly production planning process execution, SAP materials master maintenance, routing and BOM creation and management, manufacturing cost calculation, vendor selection and procurement coordination, drawing change requests, production order management, and ongoing optimisation of manufacturing efficiency through cost comparisons and process improvements. Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Work Scheduling Support
- Support and execute the monthly production planning processes for solid carbide tool manufacturing — ensuring all production orders are scheduled accurately, completely, and in line with logistics and delivery requirements
- Create and manage production orders for product lines based on logistical specifications — coordinating with manufacturing, supply chain, and operations teams to maintain production schedule adherence
- Provide coverage for colleagues and department leadership during absences — maintaining production planning continuity and ensuring no disruptions to manufacturing operations
- Compile all information required for manufacturing orders — including labelling requirements, packaging specifications, and customer-specific requirements — and communicate clearly to production teams
SAP Materials Master, Routing & BOM Management
- Create, modify, and maintain materials masters, work routings, and bills of materials (BOMs) in SAP — based on manufacturing documentation including drawings, company standards, and work instructions
- Update and maintain routings and BOMs to reflect approved engineering changes, process improvements, and manufacturing optimisation initiatives within the SAP system
- Process drawing change requests to the relevant design and engineering groups — including international coordination with Kennametal’s global engineering teams
- Ensure all SAP data — materials, routings, BOMs — is accurate, consistent, and fully maintained in line with Kennametal’s quality and operational standards at all times
Manufacturing Cost Calculation & Continuous Improvement
- Calculate manufacturing costs based on established work routings and bills of materials — providing accurate cost data that supports pricing, budgeting, and profitability analysis
- Drive continuous improvement of manufacturing economics — conducting cost comparisons, optimising work routings, and identifying the most cost-efficient sourcing of components
- Work independently through the production order priority list — taking ownership of assigned tasks and delivering accurate, timely outputs with a high level of initiative and self-direction
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives across the Arbeitsvorbereitung function — identifying opportunities to streamline planning processes, enhance data quality, and reduce manufacturing costs
Vendor Selection, Procurement & Materials Management
- Select vendors, obtain quotations, and conduct technical and commercial evaluations of incoming offers for components and services required for internal and external procurement
- Procure components and services for internal manufacturing and external requirements — managing materials procurement within Kennametal’s supply chain and quality standards
- Build and maintain effective supplier relationships — ensuring reliable, cost-effective, and quality-compliant supply of all required components to support production schedules
- Monitor and manage the procurement of materials — coordinating with logistics, production, and quality teams to prevent shortages and ensure on-time material availability for manufacturing
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Completed engineering or technician training (Ausbildung zum Ingenieur/Techniker) in mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology, or a directly related technical discipline
Technical Skills
- Good knowledge of MS Office applications — particularly Excel and Word — for production planning, cost analysis, and administrative documentation tasks
- Working knowledge of SAP — ideally including materials management (MM), production planning (PP), BOM maintenance, and routing management modules
- Basic English language skills — for international coordination with Kennametal’s global engineering and design teams on drawing changes and technical matters
