Position Overview
This Technical Support Engineer role at BYD covers the full lifecycle of Battery Energy Storage System projects across the UAE — from on-site installation of BESS components and system commissioning through to routine preventive maintenance post-COD. You will diagnose and resolve technical faults across electrical and control systems, prepare detailed technical reports and commissioning records, coordinate with clients and project stakeholders, develop annual maintenance plans, support spare parts and inventory management, and implement system modifications and corrective actions based on client and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
On-Site BESS Installation & Commissioning
- Carry out on-site installation of BESS components including PCS, BMS, battery racks, MV skid, and related systems
- Perform system commissioning, testing, and debugging activities to ensure full COD readiness
- Diagnose and resolve technical faults across electrical and control systems during commissioning and live operation
- Ensure all installation and commissioning activities comply with site safety procedures and electrical safety regulations
Preventive Maintenance & Post-COD Operations
- Perform routine operation, inspection, and preventive maintenance activities post-COD
- Develop and implement annual maintenance plans in coordination with the team and customer requirements
- Support spare parts planning, inventory control, and warehouse management
- Implement system modifications and corrective actions based on client and project requirements
Technical Fault Diagnosis & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve technical faults across electrical, control, and communication systems
- Apply strong understanding of electrical schematics, protection systems, and testing equipment
- Work with communication protocols including Modbus, CAN, and SCADA integration systems
- Respond promptly and effectively to unplanned outages or technical issues during operations
HSE Safety Compliance
- Ensure all activities are carried out in full compliance with site safety procedures and electrical safety regulations
- Apply authorized safety standards and strict HSE policies and procedures at all times
- Maintain valid safety certifications including electrical safety, LOTO, or equivalent
- Demonstrate the ability to work safely in harsh site conditions and adapt to the UAE climate
Reporting, Documentation & Stakeholder Coordination
- Prepare detailed technical reports, commissioning records, and maintenance documentation
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders to address technical issues efficiently
- Communicate effectively in English across technical documentation and stakeholder interactions
- Support the project team with accurate, timely, and professionally presented reporting throughout the project lifecycle
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a closely related discipline (REQUIRED)
- Valid safety certification such as electrical safety, LOTO, or equivalent is preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in power systems, renewable energy (PV/wind), or energy storage projects
- Hands-on experience with RMU, medium voltage switchgear, and MV skid systems is highly preferred
- Experience in large-scale BESS commissioning and maintenance is a strong advantage
Essential Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, protection systems, and field testing equipment
- Familiarity with communication protocols including Modbus, CAN, and SCADA integration
- Good knowledge of authorized safety regulations and standards for electrical work sites
- Strict adherence to HSE policies and procedures at all times on site
- Good command of English for technical documentation and professional communication
