Position Overview
This HIL Simulation Engineer role at Sungrow in Dubai is a hands-on individual contributor position focused on designing, developing, and maintaining CHIL and PHIL test environments using real-time simulation platforms. You will lead verification and certification activities for BESS and PV inverter controls against major international grid codes, develop and validate dynamic plant models including inverter models, battery models, and Power Plant Controller (PPC) logic, drive test automation using Python or similar tools, serve as a technical escalation point for complex control and communication issues, and lead end-to-end execution of regional semi-physical grid simulation projects.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Grid Compliance
- Design, develop, and maintain CHIL and PHIL test environments
- Lead verification and certification for BESS and PV inverter controls
- Ensure compliance with IEEE 1547, VDE-AR-N 4110/4120, EREC G99, NEM, and other grid codes
- Develop and validate dynamic plant models, including PPC logic
- Drive test automation using Python or similar tools for efficiency
Technical Escalation & Issue Resolution
- Serve as a high-level escalation point for control and communication issues
- Resolve issues related to Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850 protocols
- Reproduce and analyze on-site problems in the regional lab
- Coordinate with headquarters to ensure timely closure of technical issues
- Lead end-to-end execution of regional grid simulation and customer delivery projects
Cross-Functional & Technical Marketing Support
- Generate simulation-backed data and reports supporting technical marketing
- Host laboratory visits and deliver real-time HIL demonstrations to customers
- Collaborate with Sales and Technical Solution Engineering during bidding phases
- Contribute to white papers and brand authority through technical insights
Laboratory Technical Support
- Perform hands-on testing and validation in the real-time HIL laboratory
- Support efficient scheduling and utilization of test resources
- Provide technical input on hardware and software platform enhancements
- Maintain lab readiness to meet project deadlines and customer demonstrations
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Control Systems, or related field
Experience Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in real-time simulation, HIL testing, or inverter/BESS control validation
- Demonstrated technical leadership on complex projects
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency with real-time simulation platforms
- Deep understanding of utility-scale PV inverters and BESS operation and control strategies
- Extensive experience with international grid codes and interconnection requirements
- Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, and MATLAB/Simulink
- Familiarity with Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, and IEC 61850 communication protocols
Preferred / Bonus Skills
- Experience with plant-level (station-level) semi-physical simulation models
- Joint commissioning experience with third-party systems such as EMS or SVG
- Exposure to multiple real-time simulation platforms
Language & Travel Requirements
- Fluency in English or Chinese required; bilingual proficiency is a strong advantage
