Position Overview
This Quality Control Officer role at Matex Construction Chemicals in Dubai is a comprehensive laboratory and production quality assurance position within a globally active specialty chemical manufacturing company. You will conduct quality inspections and laboratory testing on raw materials, in-process production samples, and finished specialty chemical products — including waterproofing systems, protective coatings, adhesives, grouts, admixtures, and resins — monitor production processes for compliance with quality standards, investigate non-conforming products, support CAPA development and implementation, maintain laboratory equipment and quality documentation, contribute to SOP and work instruction development, and actively support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations. The role requires a Chemical Engineering degree, 2–5 years of QC, lab testing, or manufacturing experience, and strong analytical and documentation skills. Construction chemicals or specialty chemical industry experience is a preferred advantage.
Why This Role Matters: As Quality Control Officer at Matex Construction Chemicals in Dubai — working on waterproofing systems, protective coatings, admixtures, grouts, and specialty resins — you will ensure that every product Matex supplies to its global construction and industrial customers meets the demanding performance specifications that protect buildings, infrastructure, and industrial assets across some of the world’s most challenging environments, apply your chemical engineering knowledge and laboratory analytical skills in a technically rich quality control role where every test result, every non-conformance investigation, and every process improvement directly impacts the performance and durability of high-value construction chemical solutions, contribute to a quality culture that is foundational to Matex’s global reputation for product excellence and technical reliability — supporting the company’s growth in the UAE and international markets through consistent delivery of quality-assured specialty chemical products, and build a specialised quality control career in the UAE’s thriving construction chemicals manufacturing sector — one of the most technically advanced and commercially dynamic segments of the UAE’s broader manufacturing industry.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing — Raw Materials, In-Process & Finished Products
- Conduct quality inspections and laboratory testing on incoming raw materials — evaluating physical, chemical, and performance properties of raw chemical inputs against approved specifications before release for use in production, and rejecting or placing on hold any raw materials that fail to meet Matex’s incoming quality standards
- Perform in-process quality testing at defined production sampling points — collecting production samples, executing the required physical and chemical tests (including viscosity, density, pH, setting time, compressive strength, adhesion, and other product-specific performance parameters as applicable), and comparing results against in-process control limits to identify any emerging quality deviations requiring immediate production intervention
- Conduct finished product quality testing and release inspection — verifying that completed batches of waterproofing systems, coatings, adhesives, grouts, admixtures, resins, and mortars meet all specified product quality parameters before they are approved for packaging, labelling, and despatch to customers, and placing any non-conforming finished product batches on hold pending investigation and disposition decision
- Maintain laboratory equipment in calibrated, correctly functioning condition — conducting daily pre-use checks, cleaning equipment correctly after use, following calibration schedules for all measurement and testing instruments, maintaining calibration records accurately, and escalating any equipment malfunction or out-of-calibration condition to the quality manager promptly
Production Process Monitoring & Quality Compliance
- Monitor production processes to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards and approved product specifications — observing batch manufacturing activities, verifying raw material addition sequences and quantities, checking mixing parameters and batch processing conditions, and providing real-time quality assurance support to production operators and supervisors across manufacturing operations
- Verify that production is conducted in accordance with approved manufacturing procedures, batch formulation records, and work instructions — identifying any deviations from standard procedures promptly, communicating deviations to production supervisors and quality management, and documenting all observed process deviations in the quality management system
- Work closely with the Production, Technical, and Warehouse teams to maintain product quality and consistency across Matex’s manufacturing operations — providing cross-functional quality support that helps production teams understand and apply quality requirements correctly in their daily work
- Support continuous improvement initiatives — identifying opportunities to enhance manufacturing processes, improve product consistency, reduce waste and rework, and strengthen quality system effectiveness, and contributing practical QC expertise and test data analysis to support improvement projects that advance Matex’s manufacturing quality performance
Non-Conformance Investigation & CAPA Management
- Investigate non-conforming raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods — conducting structured investigations that examine batch records, raw material certificates, process parameters, test data, and equipment calibration status to identify the root cause of quality failures, and documenting investigation findings accurately and completely in the quality management system
- Support the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for identified non-conformances — working with production, technical, and supply chain colleagues to develop practical, well-reasoned CAPA plans that address the root cause of quality failures rather than managing symptoms, and following up to verify CAPA effectiveness through subsequent quality monitoring
- Identify quality defects and recurring problems across raw materials, manufacturing processes, and finished product performance — using quality data analysis and trend monitoring to identify systemic quality risks that require systematic corrective action, and escalating significant or recurring non-conformance patterns to quality management with supporting data and recommended improvement actions
- Manage the disposition process for non-conforming materials and products — evaluating the extent and nature of non-conformances, coordinating with Technical and Production teams to determine appropriate disposition options (rework, reblend, concession, or reject), implementing approved dispositions correctly, and documenting all disposition decisions with full traceability
Quality Documentation, SOPs & ISO Compliance
- Record, analyse, and report quality control results accurately and in real time — entering test data into the quality management system immediately upon completion, generating quality control reports for each tested batch, and ensuring that all QC records are complete, legible, traceable, and stored correctly for retrieval during internal audits, customer quality inquiries, or regulatory inspection
- Assist in developing and maintaining quality procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) — contributing QC laboratory knowledge and process expertise to the creation and revision of quality documentation that accurately describes how quality control activities should be performed and how quality standards should be applied across Matex’s manufacturing operations
- Maintain testing records, calibration documentation, and quality management system documentation in accordance with ISO quality standard requirements — ensuring that all quality records meet the documentation control, retention, and traceability requirements of the applicable ISO quality management system framework
- Support compliance with company quality standards and relevant industry regulations — maintaining awareness of applicable quality standards, industry testing methods (such as EN, ASTM, or BS standards relevant to construction chemicals), and UAE regulatory requirements, and ensuring that QC activities are aligned with all applicable compliance obligations
Reporting, Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare professional technical quality reports — summarising test results, batch quality performance, non-conformance trends, CAPA status, and quality improvement outcomes for the quality manager and relevant production and technical stakeholders in a clear, accurate, and well-structured format that supports informed quality management decision-making
- Analyse quality control data to identify performance trends — using statistical quality tools and data visualisation techniques where applicable to identify patterns in raw material quality, production process variability, and finished product performance that indicate emerging quality risks or improvement opportunities
- Apply knowledge of laboratory testing methods and quality management systems to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Matex’s QC laboratory operations — identifying opportunities to standardise testing methods, improve testing accuracy, reduce testing turnaround times, and enhance the overall quality intelligence provided to the production and management teams
- Maintain Microsoft Office proficiency for quality data management, report preparation, and quality system documentation — using Excel for quality data analysis and trending, Word for report and SOP writing, and other MS Office applications as required to support the quality management function’s documentation and reporting needs
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related engineering or applied science field — a relevant technical degree is a mandatory educational requirement for this Quality Control Officer role at Matex Construction Chemicals
