SGS in Dubai is seeking a Laboratory Specialist / Marine Microbiologist for marine microbiology analysis. You will process and analyse samples, prepare media, and classify marine organisms under the supervision of the Lab Manager, adhering to ISO 17025, GLP, and safety standards, with routine instrument calibration and sample inventory management.

Position Overview
The Laboratory Specialist – Marine Microbiology processes and analyses samples in the laboratory for phytoplankton, zooplankton, legionella, and microbiological analyses as assigned by the Lab Manager or section in-charge. This role prepares and stores media and reagents, identifies and classifies marine organisms, performs sample collection according to approved methodologies, and maintains ISO/IEC 17025, GLP, and other relevant laboratory safety standards throughout daily operations.

Key Responsibilities
Sample Processing & Analysis
- Process and analyse samples in the laboratory for phytoplankton, zooplankton, legionella, and microbiological analyses
- Perform sample collection and tasks in accordance with approved methodologies, testing protocols, and analytical procedures
- Prepare and store media and other reagents required for analysis
Marine Organism Identification
- Identify and classify marine organisms as part of laboratory analysis
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly checks as assigned by the Lab Manager or section in-charge
- Perform media efficacy checks, standardization, and sterility checks as assigned
Equipment, Calibration & Lab Standards
- Operate, maintain, and properly store lab and marine equipment and sample inventories
- Perform internal calibration and verification of instruments as instructed by the Lab Manager or section in-charge
- Maintain the cleanliness of the lab at all times, monitor contamination, and implement corrective actions
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain ISO/IEC 17025 local government requirements, GLP, and other relevant laboratory safety standards
- Report failure samples to the section in-charge on an immediate basis
- Perform verification/validation studies as assigned by the Lab Manager or section in-charge
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Marine Biology, or a relevant discipline
Experience Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in Marine Microbiology
Essential Skills
- Familiar with ISO 17025 standards and procedures
- Strong laboratory technique for sample handling, media preparation, and analysis
- Attention to detail for accurate identification and classification of marine organisms
- Ability to follow strict GLP and laboratory safety protocols
