Position Overview
As an AI-Assisted Software Engineer recruited through Recruits Lab, you will join an innovative confidential technology organisation in the United States that is actively advancing the use of AI tools in software development. Your core responsibilities centre on designing, building, testing, and deploying scalable, production-grade software applications — using AI coding tools as a core accelerant in your daily engineering workflow. You will build APIs, backend services, and integrations, review and optimise AI-generated code, implement automated testing and CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams. This role emphasises both strong traditional software engineering fundamentals and a modern, AI-augmented development mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Software Design, Development & Deployment
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable software applications — applying strong engineering fundamentals and modern architectural patterns to build reliable, high-performance systems that meet production quality standards.
- Use AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development — actively leveraging Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and similar tools to increase your development velocity while maintaining code quality, correctness, and security.
- Build APIs, backend services, and integrations — developing RESTful and event-driven services that connect application components, data sources, and third-party platforms within the organisation’s technical ecosystem.
AI Code Review, Testing & Quality
- Review, test, and optimise AI-generated code — critically evaluating outputs from AI coding tools to ensure correctness, performance, security, and maintainability before production deployment.
- Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering best practices — contributing to a disciplined, test-driven engineering culture that ensures software reliability across the full development lifecycle.
- Apply code review rigour and quality standards to all AI-assisted outputs — understanding that AI code generation requires the same engineering judgement and validation discipline as human-written code.
Collaboration & Engineering Culture
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams — working alongside product managers, designers, data engineers, and other software engineers to deliver features and systems that align with business and technical objectives.
- Contribute to AI-assisted development workflow improvement — helping evolve the organisation’s practices for integrating AI tools into engineering processes, code review, testing, and deployment pipelines.

Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience — demonstrated through production application delivery, engineering team collaboration, and real-world problem-solving across the full software development lifecycle.
- Proven experience building production applications — code that is deployed, maintained, and relied upon by real users or internal systems in a professional engineering context.
- Familiarity with Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI coding tools — not just awareness, but active daily use of AI-assisted development tools that enhance productivity and code quality.
- Experience with APIs, databases, automated testing, and Git — the standard technical stack of a modern software engineering professional working in backend or full-stack environments.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills — data structures, algorithms, system design, and the analytical rigour needed to build reliable, scalable software systems.
