Why This IoT RFID Analog Hardware Engineer Role Is the Electronics Career of 2026 in Munich: Elektrotechnik engineers with deep analog DC circuit design experience, solid EMC/EMV knowledge, hands-on prototyping capability (soldering, PCB assembly, network analyzer operation), basic RF engineering foundations, and ideally RFID/NFC/BLE application experience combined with good German B2+ and English — who want to work in a small, specialized, technically excellent team at an international IoT and RFID company in Munich’s extraordinary technology environment — have a genuinely exceptional career opportunity here. Flexible thin-substrate electronics, custom antenna design, international team collaboration, and the professionally stimulating challenge of developing the tag-level electronics that make IoT applications actually work.
Key Responsibilities
Analog Circuit Development, RF Simulation & Antenna Design
- Develop, simulate, and optimize small electronic circuits and RF/RFID antenna structures — applying deep analog DC circuit design expertise to design the power management, signal conditioning, and interface circuits that enable RFID and BLE tags to operate reliably within the tight power budgets, physical size constraints, and environmental performance requirements of the customer IoT applications they are designed for, using electromagnetic simulation tools (HFSS, CST, FEKO, or equivalent) to model and optimize antenna structures for impedance matching, radiation pattern, gain, read range, and detuning resistance before committing to physical prototyping, iterating between simulation and measurement to progressively optimize antenna and circuit designs toward their performance targets
- Design complete solutions around RFID and BLE tags according to customer requirements — translating customer IoT application requirements (operating frequency, read range, read rate, substrate type, temperature range, chemical resistance, form factor, manufacturing volume) into complete RFID or BLE tag hardware specifications, selecting the appropriate RFID IC or BLE SoC, designing the matching network and antenna structure, specifying the substrate material and manufacturing process, and documenting the complete tag design in a way that enables prototyping, testing, and ultimately production transfer
- Translate product development concepts into samples, prototypes, and new product ideas — applying the engineering creativity and practical prototyping capability that transforms an initial product concept into a physically testable hardware sample quickly enough to validate the concept before significant engineering resources are invested in detailed design, using rapid prototyping approaches (hand-assembled test vehicles, PCB prototype services, 3D-printed mechanical fixtures) to get measurable hardware into the test environment as efficiently as possible
Prototyping, Laboratory Testing & Measurement
- Build and test prototypes using laboratory equipment including network analyzers and specialist measurement technology — applying the hands-on laboratory skills (precision soldering of SMD components and RF connectors on flexible substrate, PCB assembly and rework, wire bonding awareness, coaxial cable and adapter management) that build physically representative prototypes capable of meaningful electrical measurement, and operating the vector network analyzer (VNA) to measure antenna impedance, S11 reflection coefficient, bandwidth, and mutual coupling with the methodological rigor that produces accurate, reproducible measurement data rather than misleading one-off results
- Analyze test results and optimize prototypes for performance improvement — applying the engineering judgment that interprets measurement data (VNA traces, RFID reader read range maps, BLE received signal strength measurements, EMC pre-compliance test results) in terms of specific circuit or antenna design parameters that can be adjusted to improve performance, designing and executing systematic parameter variations that build understanding of design sensitivity and identify the most effective optimization levers, and documenting the design-experiment-measurement-optimization cycle in a way that preserves the engineering learning for future development projects
- Support the development of manufacturing processes and handover to production — contributing the hardware design engineer’s perspective to the development of the manufacturing process (substrate handling, component placement, solder reflow, antenna trimming, functional test procedures) that translates a laboratory-proven prototype design into a reliably manufacturable production-scale process, preparing the design documentation package (assembly drawings, bill of materials, test specifications, yield criteria) that the production team needs to manufacture the design consistently to specification
Cross-Functional Collaboration — RF Engineers, Project Managers & Customers
- Work closely with RF engineers and project managers on system requirements and antenna performance — participating in the technical discussions that define the system-level requirements (read range, frequency, modulation, data rate, environmental conditions) that the antenna and tag design must meet, providing the hardware engineer’s perspective on design feasibility, technical risk, and development timeline, and communicating antenna performance results and optimization progress clearly to project stakeholders who may have varying levels of RF technical background
- Collaborate with an international team in a small specialized engineering environment — contributing effectively to a team where different engineers bring complementary specializations (RF, process engineering, laboratory measurement, production engineering), managing the technical interfaces between your analog circuit and antenna design work and the work of RF engineers, process specialists, and production colleagues with the communication clarity and professional humility that effective small-team engineering requires
Qualifications
- Completed degree in Elektrotechnik or a comparable engineering qualification — providing the electrical engineering theory and methodology foundation for analog circuit design, EMC analysis, and RF engineering work on RFID and BLE tag hardware
- Ideally 5–8 years of professional experience as a hardware development engineer — with demonstrable hands-on analog circuit design, prototyping, and laboratory measurement experience; candidates with fewer years but exceptionally strong technical fit are explicitly welcome
- Deep experience in analog DC circuit design — demonstrated through real hardware development contributions in power management, signal conditioning, or analog interface circuits for electronic products
- Solid EMC/EMV knowledge — sufficient to apply EMC design principles during circuit and PCB layout design, and to interpret pre-compliance test results and identify corrective actions
- Practical hands-on mentality — comfortable and confident with precision soldering, PCB assembly, MCU board bring-up, and laboratory measurement instrument operation as a routine part of the engineering workflow
- Good German (minimum B2) and good English — for effective communication within the Munich-based team and with international colleagues and customers
