Mechanical Design Engineer Jobs Konstanz Germany 2026

A fast-growing defence robotics company that builds complete UAV systems for military, security and emergency-response uses is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer (listed as Mechanical Development Engineer, UAV / Robotics) in Konstanz. This is not a role for someone who only does CAD or single components. The company wants a hands-on engineer who understands how a whole drone or robotic system works, from first concept to production. If that sounds like you, this UAV engineering job in Germany is a strong match.

 About the Opportunity

Employer: A fast-growing defence robotics company

Products: Complete UAV systems for military, security and emergency-response applications

Location: Konstanz, Germany, on-site

Environment: A fast-moving startup where practical engineering decisions matter

Why This Mechanical Engineering Role Stands Out

Whole-System Ownership: You work on the complete drone, not just one part of it

Concept to Production: Take hardware from the first idea and CAD through prototyping and testing to production

Hands-On Work: Build, assemble, test and troubleshoot real prototypes

Open to Other Backgrounds: Engineers from robotics, motorsport or other high-speed mechatronic fields may also be considered

Position Overview

This position asks for more than strong CAD or component-level design. You should understand how a complete drone or robotic system fits together, including propulsion, stability, control and what happens when a motor fails. You will select and integrate parts such as motors, propellers, ESCs, batteries, actuators and payloads, and combine electronics, sensors, cameras and wiring with the mechanical structure.

Why This Role Matters: In a young company, the mechanical engineer often decides whether a design actually flies, survives testing and can be built at scale. Your practical choices on weight, balance, vibration and heat shape the product from the first prototype onward.

What You Will Do — Mechanical Design Engineer Konstanz

System Development

  • Develop UAVs, drones, mobile robots or similarly complex mechatronic products
  • Take hardware from initial concept and CAD through prototyping, testing and production
  • Make practical engineering decisions in a fast-moving startup setting

Integration & Engineering Constraints

  • Select or integrate motors, propellers, ESCs, batteries, actuators and payloads
  • Integrate electronics, sensors, cameras, wiring and mechanical structures
  • Work within limits on weight, centre of gravity, vibration, thermal management and the operating environment

Prototypes & Production

  • Build, assemble, test and troubleshoot physical prototypes
  • Work directly with suppliers and production teams to deliver hardware that can actually be manufactured

Profile

Essential Experience

  • Practical experience developing UAVs, drones, mobile robots or similarly complex mechatronic products
  • A track record of taking hardware from concept and CAD through prototyping, testing and production
  • Understanding of multicopter fundamentals, including propulsion, stability, control and motor-failure implications
  • Experience selecting or integrating motors, propellers, ESCs, batteries, actuators and payloads
  • Experience integrating electronics, sensors, cameras, wiring and mechanical structures
  • Ability to work with weight, centre of gravity, vibration, thermal and environmental constraints
  • Hands-on skills in building, assembling, testing and troubleshooting physical prototypes
  • Experience working with suppliers and production teams to deliver manufacturable hardware

Preferred

  • Professional UAV experience is highly desirable
  • Candidates from robotics, motorsport or other high-speed mechatronic environments are considered if they show strong complete-system knowledge

About the Employer — Where You Would Work

The employer is a fast-growing defence robotics company that develops complete UAV systems for military, security and emergency-response applications. The role is based on-site in Konstanz and is aimed at engineers who like to work directly with hardware, suppliers and production teams.
