Position Overview

This Assistant Manager — Automation (Facilities) at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai maintains the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of automation and control systems supporting water rides, attractions, ALSS, and associated facility systems, troubleshoots and rectifies faults in PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, electrical control systems, safety circuits, and industrial communication networks, develops, modifies, tests, and maintains PLC/HMI software, performs commissioning and SAT support, conducts Root Cause Analysis, develops and improves preventive maintenance strategies, maintains software backups and engineering documentation, coordinates with OEMs and system integrators, manages critical automation spare parts, supports CAPEX/OPEX planning, and collaborates across Operations, Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, MEP, and ALSS teams — across one of the world’s most technically diverse and operationally critical resort automation environments.

Why This Role Matters: As Assistant Manager — Automation (Facilities) at Atlantis, The Palm, you maintain the engineering systems that make the extraordinary possible every single day. When your PLC troubleshooting restores a water ride to safe operation in time for opening, your ALSS control system maintenance ensures the health and safety of 65,000 marine animals that guests travel from around the world to experience, or your preventive maintenance programme prevents the kind of control system failure that would close a major attraction at peak season — you are not working in a conventional industrial automation role. You are the engineering backbone of one of the world’s most iconic destinations, and your technical expertise directly determines the quality of the guest experience that Atlantis, The Palm delivers to millions of visitors each year.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Automation System Maintenance, Troubleshooting & PLC/HMI Software

  • Maintain the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of automation and control systems supporting water rides, attractions, Animal Life Support Systems, and associated facility infrastructure — across one of the world’s most operationally complex luxury resort environments
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and rectify faults in PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, electrical control systems, safety circuits, and industrial communication networks — minimising downtime and protecting both guest experience and animal welfare
  • Develop, modify, test, and maintain PLC/HMI software — applying Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Schneider programming expertise to both corrective and improvement-driven software changes
  • Analyse drawings, schematics, I/O lists, and network architectures to resolve system issues — applying systematic diagnostic thinking to complex, multi-system control environment faults

Commissioning, RCA, Preventive Maintenance & Documentation

  • Perform commissioning, SAT support, functional testing, software validation, and post-commissioning troubleshooting for new and upgraded automation systems across Atlantis, The Palm’s water ride, attraction, and ALSS infrastructure
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on system failures and recurring faults — maintaining comprehensive technical records that drive preventive action and continuous improvement across the automation engineering function
  • Develop and improve preventive maintenance strategies, inspection checklists, and automation standards — reducing reactive maintenance burden and improving system reliability across all control system assets
  • Maintain software backups, revision history, fault logs, and engineering documentation — ensuring control system integrity and technical knowledge continuity across the team

OEM Coordination, Spares Management, CAPEX/OPEX & Modernisation

  • Coordinate with OEMs, suppliers, and system integrators for troubleshooting support, upgrades, retrofit works, and technical assistance — managing relationships that ensure Atlantis’s most complex automation systems receive expert external support when required
  • Manage critical automation spare parts and inventory — ensuring the right spares are available to minimise downtime on water rides, attractions, and life-critical ALSS systems
  • Provide recommendations for replacement, retrofit, modernisation, and lifecycle improvements — supporting informed CAPEX/OPEX planning and automation asset lifecycle management for the resort’s extensive control system estate
  • Support inspections, audits, and certification-related activities — ensuring automation systems comply with applicable safety, regulatory, and operational standards across all facility types

Industrial Networks, Cross-Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Configure and maintain industrial communication networks — EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, and OPC — across Atlantis’s distributed automation infrastructure
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, MEP, and ALSS teams — providing automation engineering expertise across multi-discipline facility management projects and breakdown responses
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives — identifying automation system enhancements that improve reliability, efficiency, safety, and guest experience across the resort
  • Provide technical support during breakdowns and planned shutdowns — including out-of-hours response for critical system failures affecting water rides, attractions, or ALSS

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline
