Position Overview — Biostatistician, Antimicrobial Stewardship Study
This Biostatistician on a 2-month contract in Abu Dhabi with IQVIA is responsible for data quality oversight and development of analysis datasets from retrospective patient-level clinical, pharmacy, microbiology, and stewardship data — developing and implementing data quality review plans, conducting data validation, consistency checks, completeness assessments, and outlier identification. The role develops Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs), performs descriptive and inferential statistical analyses of antibiotic utilisation patterns, stewardship indicators, resistance trends, prescribing appropriateness, and clinical outcomes, conducts multivariable regression and other advanced analyses, generates summary tables, figures, and reports, interprets findings and provides statistical input into technical reports, supports presentations and stakeholder workshops, ensures data security and confidentiality compliance, and maintains audit-ready data governance documentation — all in support of scientifically robust findings suitable for AMR policy and regulatory decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Data Quality Management — Validation, Cleaning & Dataset Preparation
- Develop and implement data quality review plans — establishing systematic data quality assessment processes for retrospective patient-level clinical, pharmacy, microbiology, and stewardship datasets extracted from participating hospital systems
- Conduct data validation, consistency checks, completeness assessments, and outlier identification — applying biostatistical data quality methods to identify, document, and resolve data quality issues before analysis datasets are finalised for statistical work
- Review extracted datasets and generate data query reports — communicating data quality findings clearly to hospital data custodians and study team members, enabling prompt resolution of data issues that would otherwise compromise analysis quality
- Support data cleaning, coding, reconciliation, and preparation of analysis datasets — producing clean, well-documented, reproducible analysis-ready datasets from raw clinical data sources, with audit trails that support data governance and scientific transparency requirements
Statistical Analysis — AMR, Antibiotic Utilisation & Clinical Outcomes
- Develop Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs) — producing pre-specified, comprehensive statistical analysis plans that document all planned analyses, variable definitions, subgroup analyses, and sensitivity analyses before any analysis dataset is accessed, in line with rigorous clinical research methodology
- Perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses of patient-level clinical datasets — analysing antibiotic utilisation patterns, stewardship indicators, resistance trends, prescribing appropriateness, and clinical outcomes using STATA, SPSS, or equivalent statistical software
- Conduct multivariable regression analyses and other advanced analytical methods — applying logistic regression, Cox proportional hazards, mixed-effects models, or other advanced statistical approaches as required to correctly adjust for confounding and identify the genuine drivers of stewardship performance and patient outcomes

Interpretation, Reporting, Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
- Interpret study findings and provide statistical input into technical reports — translating complex biostatistical outputs into clear, accurate, and policy-relevant narrative interpretations that non-statistical stakeholders can understand and act upon
- Contribute to presentations, stakeholder workshops, and report finalisation — representing the statistical analysis perspective in multi-disciplinary study team discussions and hospital stakeholder engagements

Education, Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Statistics, Public Health, Data Science, or a related quantitative field — providing the methodological foundation for rigorous clinical and healthcare research biostatistical analysis
