Position Overview
This Performance Capture Supervisor role involves leading planning and execution of performance capture sessions for digital humans and AI characters, developing capture plans based on character and narrative requirements, preparing and directing performers during rehearsals and capture, coordinating dialogue, movement, facial expression and gesture capture, reviewing captured data for quality and technical accuracy, and collaborating with technical artists and AI teams to integrate performances into digital characters.

Key Responsibilities
Capture Planning & Direction
- Lead planning and execution of performance capture sessions for digital humans, AI characters and virtual characters
- Develop capture plans based on character requirements, narrative objectives and technical specifications
- Prepare performers with character context, scene objectives and performance references
Session Supervision
- Supervise performers during rehearsals and capture sessions for natural, consistent performances
- Coordinate capture of dialogue, body movement, facial expression, gaze and gesture
- Work with facial capture and voice teams to maintain synchronization
Data Quality & Technical Coordination
- Oversee capture workflows, calibration, takes and data organization
- Review captured data for quality, completeness and suitability for downstream systems
- Identify and resolve technical issues such as occlusion, tracking errors or noisy data
- Coordinate with technical artists and animators on data processing and retargeting
AI Character & Interactive Development
- Support development of reusable performance libraries for character actions and reactions
- Work with AI and character teams to identify performance data requirements
- Coordinate capture sessions for interactive and adaptive character behaviors
- Support integration of captured performances into real-time engines and digital human platforms
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Minimum BA/MA in Animation, Film, Theatre, Performance, Digital Media, Game Development, Computer Graphics, Motion Capture, Virtual Production or a related field
Experience Requirements
- At least 3-5 years of professional experience in performance capture, motion capture, virtual production, animation or digital character production
- Demonstrable experience supervising or coordinating performance capture sessions
- Experience directing or coaching performers for capture
Essential Skills
- Strong understanding of acting, physical performance, body mechanics and facial expression
- Experience with full-body motion capture, facial capture, hand tracking or related technologies
- Familiarity with optical or inertial tracking, marker-based or markerless capture workflows
- Practical experience with Unreal Engine, Unity, MotionBuilder, Maya, Blender or MetaHuman
- Understanding of retargeting, rigging, animation cleanup and real-time character pipelines
- Strong technical troubleshooting abilities during live capture sessions
- Excellent organizational, communication and leadership skills
- Fluency in English; additional languages an asset
