Why This Worley Brownfield Construction Lead Role in Abu Dhabi Is the Oil & Gas Engineering Career of 2026: Lead Construction Engineers with 15+ years of Oil & Gas experience — including 5+ years in similar lead positions on major EPC/PMC projects in the GCC, proven ADNOC and offshore project credentials, mandatory brownfield construction experience, and the multi-discipline coordination, constructability review leadership, and workpack development expertise that Worley’s Abu Dhabi operations demand — are among the most sought-after, most generously compensated, and most professionally respected construction engineering professionals in the GCC Oil & Gas market. Worley’s global reputation, combined with Abu Dhabi’s extraordinary energy infrastructure investment pipeline, makes this one of the most career-defining Oil & Gas construction engineering opportunities available in the UAE in 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Leadership — Brownfield Fabrication & Installation
- Provide comprehensive construction support ensuring all project work is carried out in accordance with client fabrication and installation specifications — taking senior technical accountability for construction method compliance across all brownfield modification, fabrication, and installation activities, verifying that the contractor’s construction approach aligns with the approved project specifications, engineering standards, and ADNOC’s specific construction requirements for active offshore and onshore production facility environments
- Coordinate with the client to ensure proposed construction and work methods are clearly understood and fit for purpose — maintaining the proactive, technically credible client technical interface that enables construction method approvals, engineering queries, and construction-related design clarifications to be resolved efficiently without causing delays to fabrication and installation program milestones
- Promote and drive the involvement of Construction in technical design, fabrication, and installation workpack preparation and planning — ensuring that construction engineering perspective is integrated into the design process from the earliest FEED phases, identifying and eliminating design features that would create unnecessary fabrication difficulty, installation risk, or construction cost without proportionate technical benefit
- Develop and maintain responsibility for all construction and completions activities — taking comprehensive ownership of the construction activity portfolio from workpack development through construction execution, punch list closeout, and mechanical completion certification, ensuring that all construction activities are delivered safely, within specification, and on program
Constructability Reviews — Chairing & Technical Leadership
- Chair constructability reviews and act as the primary interface with the client for all fabrication and construction-related queries — leading the formal constructability review process with the authority and technical credibility of a 15+ year construction engineering career, driving the structured evaluation of design packages against fabrication feasibility, installation methodology, construction sequencing, and operability requirements that constructability reviews are designed to deliver
- Review design packages early in the course of the project to eliminate rework and optimize construction — applying brownfield construction experience to identify the specific design elements that would create unnecessary construction complexity, difficult or hazardous installation conditions, or fabrication quality risks, and proposing design modifications that improve constructability without compromising design intent or engineering performance
- Ensure constructability is inherent within the design by being involved at the early stage of work scope and workpack compilation and development — advocating for the early construction engineering involvement that consistently reduces project cost, schedule, and risk compared with the alternative of addressing constructability issues after design packages have been issued for fabrication
Workpack Development, Management & Quality Assurance
- Develop and manage construction workpacks across all brownfield project activities — producing the comprehensive, construction-ready workpack packages that give fabrication contractors and offshore installation teams the complete technical information, method statements, inspection test plans, material lists, specialist tool and equipment requirements, and shutdown coordination information they need to execute construction activities safely, correctly, and efficiently
- Ensure contents of workpacks meet scope requirements and that fabrication details are clear and complete — reviewing workpack packages with the critical eye of an experienced brownfield construction professional who understands exactly what information offshore installation teams need to find construction work executable without ambiguity, improvisation, or safety compromise
- Ensure any shutdown requirements are clearly identified in workpacks with advance notice given to the client — managing the shutdown coordination process with the precision and advance planning that brownfield construction on live production facilities demands, identifying all activities requiring plant shutdown or isolation well ahead of the shutdown window and coordinating the client’s Operations team involvement in advance planning
- Obtain feedback from fabrication contractors and offshore installation teams to continuously improve workpack quality — systematically collecting and incorporating the practical field experience of construction contractors into workpack development practice, building the iterative improvement cycle that progressively raises workpack quality and construction execution efficiency across successive project phases
Multi-Discipline Coordination — Engineering, Vendors & Subcontractors
- Liaise with engineering disciplines to effect solutions to fabrication, construction, and implementation queries — serving as the construction engineering interface to structural, piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and civil engineering disciplines, translating field construction problems into clear engineering queries and facilitating the timely engineering solutions that keep construction activities progressing without unnecessary delay
- Liaise with vendors and subcontractors as required — maintaining the professional relationships with specialist equipment suppliers, inspection agencies, lifting contractors, and specialist installation vendors that enable the coordination of specialist services within the project’s construction program and ensure that vendor-supplied information and services support construction workpack requirements
- Conduct offshore surveys with the design team as required — participating in the field surveys that provide the accurate as-built condition information needed to design brownfield modifications correctly, identifying access constraints, space envelope limitations, existing infrastructure conflicts, and tie-in point conditions that must be incorporated into the construction design basis
- Ensure commissioning strategy is prepared and included in workpack deliverables as required — coordinating with the project’s commissioning team to ensure that workpacks include all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, hookup requirements, and system completion boundaries that the project’s overall mechanical completion and commissioning program requires
HSSE Compliance, Progress Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Be conversant with and fully comply with the HSSE plan — demonstrating the uncompromising personal HSSE commitment that brownfield construction on live ADNOC production facilities demands, setting the behavioral standard for HSSE performance that the construction team and contractor workforces working under Worley’s supervision are expected to follow
- Monitor construction progress against the approved baseline program and construction sequence — maintaining accurate, current visibility of construction progress status, identifying activities at risk of delay, assessing the impact of emerging schedule risks on overall project milestone dates, and coordinating recovery actions that restore program where deviations occur
- Assess effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving — applying the reflective professional judgment that 15+ years of construction engineering experience enables, systematically identifying the specific practices, processes, and systems improvements that would increase construction productivity, reduce rework, or improve HSSE performance across Worley’s Abu Dhabi brownfield construction operations
