Position Overview
The ETO Instrumentation Engineer specifies, designs, sizes and selects all types of instruments and actuated valves — including control valves, shutdown valves and on-off valves — for engineer-to-order projects. You will understand and apply client specifications, international standards and industry best practices, define technical requirements for instrumentation bulk material and cables, manage vendors and suppliers, and support installation activities at shop or site locations.

Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation Design & Specification
- Specify, design, size and select all types of instruments and actuated valves, including control valves, shutdown valves and on-off valves
- Create the instrumentation design basis and project specifications in line with client requirements
- Develop instrument datasheets for pressure, level, temperature, flow, fire and gas detectors, horns, beacons and junction boxes
- Define instrumentation and communication cable sizing, routing and bulk material MTOs
Proposal & Project Engineering
- Review and understand client specifications during the proposal phase, raising clarifications and deviations in the ITT
- Provide technical requirements and preliminary MTOs for instrumentation bulk material during proposals
- Deliver instrumentation engineering documents on schedule, including instrument index, I/O schedule and cable schedule
- Provide and track engineering hours estimates for the instrumentation discipline
Vendor & Technical Bid Management
- Manage vendors and suppliers for all instrumentation equipment and bulk material
- Define control valves, actuated valves, analyzers and flow measurement instruments together with vendors
- Perform technical bid analysis of instrumentation equipment and provide vendor feedback
- Review, comment on and approve outsourced instrumentation engineering and vendor documentation
Safety Studies & Quality Reviews
- Participate in and close out action items from safety studies such as HAZOP
- Define and review deliverables for SIL studies
- Participate in peer review of P&IDs and 3D model reviews for their discipline
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) as required
Team Support & Site Collaboration
- Provide inputs to other engineering disciplines during project execution and engineering meetings
- Lead and assist junior instrumentation engineers and designers on engineering deliverables
- Support installation activities at shop or site, and support PSDs and operations teams as required
- Travel as required to fulfill project and business needs
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Control Systems Engineering, or related field
- Strong grounding in international standards and industry codes of practice
Experience & Technical Requirements
- Proven experience specifying and designing instrumentation and actuated valve systems
- Working knowledge of control valves, shutdown valves, on-off valves and safety instrumented systems
- Experience with HAZOP, SIL studies, and P&ID and 3D model reviews
Essential Skills
- Strong technical writing skills for datasheets, specifications and technical requisitions
- Ability to manage vendors, suppliers and technical bid analysis processes
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration and project coordination skills
- Up-to-date knowledge of applicable codes, standards and HSSE best practices
- Willingness and ability to travel for project and site support needs
