Position Overview
As a Greenskeeper at Invited Clubs in Rancho Mirage, CA, you will be responsible for maintaining the golf course’s turf and landscapes to ensure optimal playability and exceptional aesthetic appeal for the club’s members and guests. Your daily work will include mowing greens, fairways, tees, and roughs to maintain proper height; applying fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides per the agronomy plan; monitoring irrigation; identifying turf issues such as pests and disease; operating powered equipment; and maintaining landscaping around the clubhouse. You report to the Equipment Manager or Superintendent and work as part of a dedicated golf course maintenance team committed to upholding the Invited Clubs standard of excellence.
Key Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Turf Management & Course Playability
- Mow greens, fairways, tees, and roughs to maintain proper height and playability — operating mowing equipment safely and precisely to deliver the consistent, high-quality playing surfaces that Invited Club members expect.
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides according to the club’s agronomy plan and safety guidelines — maintaining turf health across all playing surfaces while adhering strictly to chemical handling and application standards.
- Water turf areas and adjust irrigation systems as required — ensuring optimal moisture levels across all turf zones and responding promptly to irrigation issues that could affect playing conditions or turf health.
- Monitor turf conditions and identify issues such as pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies — taking timely corrective actions to protect turf quality and maintain the premium playing conditions the club demands.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Safely operate powered equipment including mowers, aerators, and sprayers — applying correct operating procedures for all machinery and maintaining constant awareness of safety requirements when operating equipment on the course.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment — ensuring all tools and machinery are in proper working order, correctly stored, and clean — supporting the Equipment Manager’s overall equipment management programme.
Landscaping & Course Aesthetics
- Maintain and enhance landscaping around the clubhouse — including flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees — trimming, pruning, and caring for all planted areas to promote healthy growth and maintain the visual standards of the club.
- Prepare soil beds, lay sod, and plant new vegetation as directed — contributing to course improvement projects and seasonal planting programmes that enhance the beauty and quality of the Rancho Mirage club environment.
- Keep all areas of the golf course free of debris — including pathways, bunkers, and water hazards — and assist in the construction and maintenance of new course features such as greens, tees, and bunkers.
Physical Requirements: This is a primarily outdoor, physically active role in Rancho Mirage, CA. The position involves frequent exposure to extreme heat, sun, and humidity. Physical tasks include walking, climbing ladders, squatting, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling, and lifting/carrying up to 100 lbs. Candidates must be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in California’s desert climate year-round.
