Position Overview
This Industrial Hygiene Technician role supports the day-to-day work that keeps people safe in laboratory, research, and operational settings. You will help implement industrial hygiene programmes, carry out workplace exposure assessments for chemical, biological, physical, and radiological hazards, and use direct-reading instruments and sampling techniques for gases, vapours, dust, fumes, and particulates. You will monitor laboratory ventilation, fume hoods, and air quality, inspect biosafety cabinets and containment devices, check chemical labelling and SDS compliance, and support chemical hygiene and hazardous waste work. Radiation monitoring and dosimetry records, noise surveys, hearing conservation, heat stress, vibration, and ergonomic checks are also part of the job. You will assist with risk assessments, inspections, audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking, support emergency drills, check eyewash stations, safety showers, and spill kits, deliver HSE training, monitor contractor compliance, and prepare clear inspection and performance reports.

Key Responsibilities
Exposure Monitoring & Hazard Assessment
- Conduct workplace exposure assessments for chemical, biological, physical, and radiological hazards
- Perform exposure monitoring with direct-reading instruments and sampling techniques
- Perform air sampling for gases, vapours, dust, fumes, and particulates
- Run noise surveys, support hearing conservation, and monitor heat stress, vibration, and ergonomic risks
Laboratory & Chemical Safety
- Monitor ventilation systems, fume hoods, and air quality controls; inspect biosafety cabinets and containment devices
- Verify chemical labelling and safety data sheet (SDS) compliance
- Monitor safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous chemicals and biological materials
- Assist with hazardous waste management and support chemical hygiene programmes
Radiation, Emergency & Incident Support
- Conduct radiation exposure monitoring and maintain dosimetry records
- Support response to chemical spills, biological exposures, and radiation incidents; join emergency drills
- Inspect eyewash stations, safety showers, spill kits, and first-aid facilities
- Assist with incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking
Audits, Training & Records
- Conduct routine HSE inspections and audits, report findings, and track closure of corrective and preventive actions
- Deliver HSE and industrial hygiene training on PPE, chemical safety, respiratory protection, and biosafety
- Support safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and contractor compliance monitoring
- Keep accurate inspection, audit, monitoring, and incident records, and prepare HSE performance reports
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, HSE, or a related field
- Laboratory, research, healthcare, education, or industrial experience preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Experience with exposure monitoring, inspections, and risk assessments
- Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ACGIH, NIOSH, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and relevant Qatar HSE regulations
- Understanding of industrial hygiene monitoring techniques and equipment, and of chemical, biological, radiological, and physical hazard management
- Strong analytical, reporting, problem-solving, communication, and training skills; Microsoft Office and HSE management systems; Power BI is an advantage
Certifications
- Industrial Hygiene certification or equivalent, NEBOSH IGC, and IOSH Managing Safely
