Position Overview

The Inventory Manager at The Boring Company’s Dubai project is a rare founding opportunity to build and own an entire inventory and warehouse function from day one within one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the UAE. You will set up the warehouse layout, establish storage and labeling systems, manage receiving and issuance of TBM components, coordinate international inbound shipments, handle UAE customs clearance and import documentation, maintain critical spares kits to protect tunneling uptime, and grow a team of inventory and warehouse staff as the project scales. This is an active, field-adjacent role — demanding equal parts operational discipline, logistics expertise, systems proficiency, and genuine hands-on leadership in a dynamic construction environment in Dubai.

Why This Role Matters: At The Boring Company’s Dubai tunnel project, the Inventory Manager is the operational foundation everything else depends on. When a TBM component is missing, tunneling stops. When critical spares are unavailable, the project bleeds time and money. When customs documentation is wrong, shipments are delayed at the border. As the founding Inventory Manager, you prevent every one of these scenarios — your systems, your accuracy, your coordination, and your leadership directly protect the speed and success of one of Dubai’s most extraordinary engineering projects. This is not a routine warehouse job. It is a career-defining opportunity to build something from nothing at a company changing how cities move.

 Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Setup & Inventory Function Build

  • Stand up and run the complete inventory function for the Dubai project from day one as the founding team member
  • Design warehouse layout, storage systems, slotting strategies, labeling, and best-practice execution across all areas
  • Establish and continuously audit critical spares kits for the TBM to protect tunneling uptime and prevent costly downtime
  • Hire, train, and lead inventory and warehouse staff as the Dubai project scales and team requirements grow

Day-to-Day Inventory Operations

  • Oversee daily receiving, storage, and issuance of equipment and materials across the TBM site, precast plant, and warehouse
  • Maintain accurate, real-time inventory records and identify discrepancies through root-cause investigation and correction
  • Perform cycle counts, variance reconciliation, and correction transactions to maintain consistently high inventory accuracy
  • Proactively monitor stock levels and reorder points on critical and regular-use materials before low counts impact operations

International Logistics & UAE Customs Coordination

  • Coordinate all inbound international shipments including UAE customs clearance, import documentation, and freight forwarder management
  • Manage import paperwork for TBM components, project equipment, and all other materials entering the UAE for the project
  • Work closely with purchasing teams and vendors on delivery scheduling, receiving inspections, and resolution of shortages or damages
  • Ensure full compliance with UAE customs regulations, import/export documentation requirements, and project safety standards

Systems, Processes & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement and administer inventory management systems and train the growing warehouse team on their correct use
  • Drive process improvements for high inventory accuracy following any discrepancy investigations or audit findings
  • Ensure warehouse and material handling operations fully comply with UAE regulations and project safety requirements
  • Develop standard operating procedures, reporting dashboards, and KPI tracking for all inventory and warehouse activities

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience Requirements

  • 3+ years of inventory control, warehouse, or materials management experience in construction, heavy industry, manufacturing, or oil & gas
  • Hands-on knowledge of inventory systems such as SAP, MOS/MES, or equivalent enterprise inventory platforms
  • Proven experience with cycle counting, root-cause analysis of inventory discrepancies, and inventory accuracy improvement programs
  • Currently based in UAE or GCC region, or eligible and ready to work in the UAE immediately

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with UAE customs processes, import/export documentation, and freight forwarder coordination in the Gulf
  • Experience supporting tunneling, mining, or major Gulf infrastructure or construction projects
  • Prior experience building or scaling an inventory and warehouse function from scratch within a fast-growing project environment

Key Skills & Personal Attributes

  • Strong proficiency with scanners, data tools, spreadsheets, and inventory reporting systems for accurate record-keeping
  • Comfortable in a hands-on, field-adjacent role — this is not a desk-only position and requires active floor presence
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as required by the demands of an active tunneling project in Dubai
  • Smart, scrappy, and mission-driven with the drive to build something truly new in one of the world’s most exciting cities
