Position Overview
The Lab Technician prepares laboratory equipment, chemicals, specimens, and materials for science practical lessons, sets up and dismantles experiments before and after classes, and keeps the laboratories clean, organized, and safe for staff and students. The role also includes maintaining and calibrating equipment, managing inventory, storing and disposing of chemicals and hazardous materials according to safety regulations, conducting routine safety inspections, preparing solutions and specimens, and keeping accurate records. You will support science teachers during lab sessions, help with practical examinations, and contribute to school and examination activities as required.

Key Responsibilities
Practical Lesson Preparation
- Prepare laboratory equipment, chemicals, specimens, and materials for science practical lessons
- Set up and dismantle laboratory experiments before and after classes
- Prepare chemical solutions and specimens as required for practical activities
- Support science teachers during lab sessions and provide technical help when needed
Safety, Chemicals & Compliance
- Keep laboratories clean, organized, and safe for staff and students
- Label, store, and dispose of chemicals and hazardous materials according to safety regulations
- Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure compliance with school health and safety policies
- Check that emergency equipment — fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and first aid kits — is inspected regularly and easy to reach
Equipment, Inventory & Records
- Maintain, calibrate, and carry out basic repairs on laboratory equipment
- Monitor and manage inventory, including ordering and storing supplies
- Keep accurate records of equipment maintenance, chemical usage, and inventory
- Help develop and update laboratory procedures and safety documentation
School & Examination Support
- Support school activities and examination activities as required
- Conduct laboratory practical examinations according to school protocols
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics
- Previous experience in a school, college, university, or research laboratory is preferred
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and chemical handling procedures
- Excellent record-keeping and computer skills
- Mid-career level, with over 2 years of experience
