- Assist faculty members and students during laboratory sessions — providing technical guidance and operational support as needed
- Support the delivery of undergraduate biology and microbiology laboratory courses through expert preparation and hands-on assistance
Equipment Maintenance & Inventory Management
- Maintain and organise all laboratory equipment, materials, and instruments — ensuring availability, functionality, and proper calibration
- Manage laboratory inventory — tracking consumables, chemicals, glassware, and biological materials and coordinating timely restocking
- Ensure all laboratory equipment is correctly stored, maintained, and operating safely within required specification parameters
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records using laboratory information systems and standard office software
Aseptic Technique, Microbial Culture & Biosafety
- Apply and demonstrate aseptic technique, sterilization procedures, and microbial culture methods throughout all laboratory activities
- Prepare microbial cultures, growth media, and biological specimens safely and accurately for use in teaching and research
- Enforce biosafety practices and procedures at all times — ensuring the safe handling, storage, and disposal of biological materials
- Maintain biosafety compliance and support health and safety training for students and new laboratory users
Safety Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all laboratory operations comply with health, safety, and institutional procedures and regulatory requirements
- Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and auditable laboratory records — supporting institutional compliance and research documentation
- Identify and report any laboratory safety concerns, equipment faults, or procedural non-conformances to the appropriate supervisor

Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Laboratory Science, or a closely related scientific field — minimum requirement
- Additional postgraduate qualifications in biological sciences, laboratory management, or biosafety are a valued advantage
Experience Requirements
- Relevant laboratory experience in an academic, clinical, industrial, or research environment — preferably in biology or microbiology
